Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook assistant manager Jeff Sherman and his staff released opening odds for a number of Men’s and Women’s events for the upcoming 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

Earlier this year, the Nevada Gaming Control Board unanimously approved a regulation from the state’s Commission allowing sportsbooks in the Silver State to start making odds and taking bets on select Olympic events. Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook assistant manager Jeff Sherman and his staff have released opening odds for a number of Men’s and Women’s events for the upcoming 2016 Summer Olympic Games set to begin in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Aug. 5 with the Opening Ceremonies at Maracanã Stadium, so let’s take a look at the opening (and current) numbers from all of these events and make a couple of early picks to help keep our SBR free picks readers ahead of the curve.

Olympic Betting Now Available in Nevada, Starts with These 2016 Summer Games
The 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro begins in less than two months and after gaining approval earlier in the year from the Nevada Gaming Commission, the Gaming Control Board unanimously approved a regulation allowing sportsbooks in the Silver State to start putting out odds and accepting wagers on Olympic sporting events which are sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

In 2015, the GCB unveiled an agreement it had with the IOC to start sharing information on Olympic betting to help protect from any potential illegal activity, a move which no doubt helped open up some mental gates for a possible change in the Nevada state existing law. The South Point casino spearheaded this change, with attorney Barry Lieberman representing the hotel-casino’s owners—Gaughan South LLC—and other members of the Las Vegas sportsbook marketplace who presented their case for Olympics wagering at a public workshop with the NGCB earlier this year with sportsbook operators asking regulators to let them choose the specific events they wanted to book. It took regulators from the NGC just minutes to unanimously pass the measure at their meeting a month later.

Here are all of the opening odds for the team events from the world’s largest sportsbook—the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook here in Sin City—for the Games of the XXXI Olympiad, which will have 406 events in 26 different sports—including the addition of Golf and Rugby this year—with 207 nations participating and is scheduled to run from Aug 6. through Aug. 21 in 18 different existing venues throughout the South American nation of Brazil.
