The famed Monster Mile at Dover International Speedway will play host to NASCAR’s Sprint Cup series this week ahead of Sunday’s AAA 400 Drive for Autism. Read here for more.
Betting on Kyle Busch to win has paid off three times in the first 11 races following his victory at Kansas last Saturday night. Kevin Harvick stayed on his tail to finish second and Kurt Busch put two family members in the Top 3 by taking third.
The following is a look at my top valued favorite, contender and longshot to win this Sunday at Dover based on betting odds as provided by TopBet.
Top Valued Favorite
I went with Jimmie Johnson as a +450 favorite to win last week and I am sticking with this pick again at +375 betting odds to win on Sunday. Once again these are the best odds on the board. The No. 48 Chevrolet had a long night at Kansas with a 17th-place finish and the team has now finished outside the Top 10 in its last two Sprint Cup point-race events. I like Johnson’s chances to turn things around on Sunday at a track where he has enjoyed a great deal of success during his storied racing career. He comes in as the defending champ in this event, which also happened to be his ninth career victory here. His average finishing position at the Monster Mile is 9.1.
Top Valued Contender
Sometimes you get the feeling that a certain driver is due, especially when he is one of the best in the series. That is why I am going with Joey Logano and the No. 22 Ford as this week’s top valued betting pick at +1200 odds to win. The downside is that he is still looking for his first victory this season after making six trips to the Winner’s Circle in 2015 and last week’s effort was a forgettable 38th-place finish. Logano will be looking for his first Sprint Cup victory at Dover over the course of his seven-year career, but he has been able to race with a high level of consistency lately with seven Top 10 finishes in his last eight runs around this track.
Top Valued Longshot
I have been betting NASCAR’s rising stars as longshots through the first 11 events and I am not about to stop now with a play on Chase Elliott as a +2000 longshot to win this race. He has taken over the reins of Jeff Gordon’s fabled No. 24 Chevrolet and while his is still looking for his first win at this level, he has been right in the mix several times with seven Top 10 finishes including three in the top five. He worked his way to ninth last Saturday night to hold onto a tie for 10th place in the overall Sprint Cup standings with 303 points. This will be Elliott’s first career Sprint Cup race at Dover.
Betting Odds for other Notable Drivers
Following Johnson on TopBet’s list this week is Kyle Busch at +450 betting odds. Kevin Harvick has been set as a +550 third-favorite to win followed by Matt Kenseth at +750 odds to win for the first time this year. Two-time winner Carl Edwards’ odds to win a third point race on Sunday have been set at +1000 and joining Logano at +1200 is a foursome of drivers that includes Kurt Busch, Brian Keselowski, Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr.
