Wolfsburg have the market cornered for their R32 tie with Sporting Lisbon. Will the Bundesliga high-flyers deliver on this favourable outlook or will the Portuguese side pull off the unthinkable?

Wolfsburg On the Verge Of R16
Wolfsburg take a 2-0 lead to Lisbon this Thursday after the Bundesliga high flyers defeated Sporting Lisbon at the Volkswagen Arena in the first leg of their R32 tie. Die Wolfe (The Wolves) faced little resistance from the Portuguese side in the comfortable home victory, scoring twice in the second half through Dutchman Bas Dost. Now, they'll look to finish the job in the Portuguese capital, all while matched as the marginal favourites, albeit on the long side of even money at +163, a smidgen shorter than Sporting at +180.

On the whole, it's a rather tight soccer betting market. Hardly the sort of soccer betting line where it's obvious which side is the clear-cut favourite. To be fair, this outlook is exclusive to the second-leg match betting markets. As it is, with Wolfsburg holding the 2-0 edge and Sporting lacking a vital away goal, it's the former that has the tie cornered on -1400 future odds to advance into the R16. That is, perhaps, the most telling soccer betting outlook. Simply put, a ringing endorsement.

Put another way, Sporting Lisbon are priced at +800 soccer odds to turn the tie in their favour entirely. Long odds that clearly imply it's an improbable outcome according to bookies.

Wolfsburg Road Faves
As mentioned above, Wolfsburg enter this match as the road faves at +163. However, Sporting Lisbon's soccer odds of +180, which are just a fraction longer, appear to render any perceived favouritism relative. Well, initially maybe. Rather than suggesting Sporting Lisbon are sure to turn the tie on its, it allows for the various outcomes whereby Sporting Lisbon wins the second leg but loses the tie.

There are quite a few scenarios that could occur: Sporting winning  1-0 or 2-1, for instance. In the former scenario Wolfsburg would still advance behind a 2-1 edge on aggregate. In the latter, they would yet again advance with a 3-2 edge on aggregate.

The best case scenario for the hosts would be either matching Wolfsburg's first leg result on the scoreboard (2-0), thereby sending the tie into extra time. Or flat out outdoing Wolfsburg entirely with a 3-0 score or better in Lisbon. Only that way could they turn the tie on its head.

Soccer Betting Verdict: Wolfsburg To Advance
The way Wolfsburg won the first leg of their tie to come through for their backers as the home faves at -163 soccer odds has them fittingly favoured in the second leg to win outright and advance. Although both sides started brightly, the Portuguese never seemed to really threaten. Die Wolfe (The Wolves) were always in their stride. They appeared to be in control right off the bat, pestering Sporting Lisbon's defence incessantly, pressing up high and creating most chances of note.

If the second leg of the tie sticks to the same script, it's hard to see how Sporting Lisbon turn it around. To be fair, Sporting are a tough nut to crack at home. They are riding a 14-game undefeated streak at home in all competitions, which augurs well. Had Wolfsburg boasted just a 1-0 edge, it would be a different story. As it is, Sporting are faced with erasing a two-goal lead, which we're not so confident they can accomplish at the expense of Wolfsburg, in the form the Bundesliga high-flyers currently boast.
