Real Madrid came away to the good in a bumpy opening week of Spanish football, which saw last season’s top six clubs enjoy contrasting fortunes. Let’s look at how things could shape up for Real Madrid in week 2 La Liga betting against Real Sociedad on the road.

La Liga Betting is Back!
Opening week in La Liga was a bumpy round for many sides, most notably for titleholders Atletico Madrid who were held to a scoreless draw by Rayo Vallecano just days after winning the Spanish Super Cup over city rivals Real Madrid. Of course, Diego Simeone’s absence from the sidelines (suspended from eight matches following his antics in the clash of the Madrids) might have had an influence on the outcome. His intense presence can have the 12th man affect.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid fared much better in their opener as they went on to beat newly promoted side Cordoba 2-0. Although Real fans can be pleased about the successful start, their side’s performance wasn’t quite the David vs. Goliath match most expected. Unimpressive is a word bandied around soccer betting circles for Los Blancos’ performance against their lesser opponents. If Cordoba actually start to believe they can compete in Spanish top flight successfully, it’ll be down to the Spanish giants having taken mercy on them in the opening week.

Going into week 2 La Liga betting, the table reads so: Real Madrid third in the table, behind top of the table Barcelona and second-placed Celto de Vigo (huh?). Obviously, Celto de Vigo’s top of the table position is just one of those bizarre early days’ anomalies – not to put a damper on it, but there is no serious danger of Celto winning the title. Real Madrid though are going to have to shape up because lapses in focus were symptomatic of their failures last season, the reason why the title slipped through their fingers as they finished third behind Atleti and Barcelona. They can’t afford to fall behind early because to catch up in a lopsided league such as Primera Division is, where it’s a three-horse race mainly, is an uphill battle.

Real Sociedad vs. Real Madrid Betting Tips and Picks
Next up for Real Madrid is Real Sociedad on the road. A side that finished seventh in the table last season with 16-11-11 mark (59 points), and a side that opened the new season on a whimper with a 0-1 defeat to promoted Eibar.

Appropriately, Real Madrid are the favourites to win outright at -275 soccer odds, despite travelling to Basque territory. Real Madrid are overwhelming heavyweights on paper, boasting more talent, depth and skill on the bench than their Basque counterparts do. What’s more, Real Madrid decimated Real Sociedad 9-1 in their two domestic league meetings last season – winning 5-1 at the Bernabéu and 4-0 at the Estadio Municipal de Anoeta in San Sebastián.

Real Sociedad are matched as the whopping +650 underdogs to win at home. Undoubtedly, beating Real Madrid was always going to be a tough ask for Real Sociedad. Now, that they are behind the pace following an opening defeat to a promoted side, a touch of desperation might seep into their ranks as the inevitable prospect of falling behind two games looms. Desperation often leads to poor decision-making on the pitch, which yields disastrous results.

Complicating matters for La Real is UEFA Europa League action this week. In fact, their first leg against Russian Premier League side Krasnodar came just mere days before their La Liga opener with Eibar. The reverse leg, which is an away leg in Krasnodar, Russia, is on Thursday 28 August. Battling on many fronts can take its toll on most teams. It’s clear La Real is ill-equipped to do so successfully if they lose a side of Eibar’s ilk. With the rigorous demands of multiple campaigns and travel weighing them down, what chance do they have against Real Madrid, even if an unimpressive Real Madrid?
