Week 13 of the EPL betting card offers a tight game between two decent teams, but Southampton have hit their stride in recent weeks & should ultimately prove too strong for Stoke.

Every summer Southampton find themselves bullied into selling their best players to bigger clubs, but every season they seem to emerge stronger. After a stuttering start they have put together an impressive unbeaten run that dates back to September 20.
They were impressive in beating Swansea and Chelsea and battled to solid draws against Liverpool and high-flying Leicester. In their last three games they have beaten three relegation threatened teams that could be written off as cannon fodder – Bournemouth, Sunderland and Aston Villa – and Stoke will prove a much sterner test. But they have every reason to feel confident. Stoke have been somewhat erratic this term. In their last game they beat Chelsea and will take encouragement from that, but that was far from a famous victory when you consider that the Blues have lost seven out of 12 games so far this season. Before that Stoke drew with struggling Newcastle and lost to Watford. They have been wildly inconsistent so far this season, and Southampton can exploit this.

They have home advantage and are in great form, so the crowd will be behind them 100%. The -150 on offer is a good price for a team that has played so well of late. One thing you can expect is a low scoring game. Since August, only two Stoke games have seen more than 2.5 goals. The last came on September 26. Southampton have also made a habit of grinding out narrow victories of late and won’t get much leeway from a very strong Stoke defence. The likes of Ryan Shawcross and Erik Pieters relish a battle and Southampton striker Graziano Pelle can expect a bruising afternoon. Southampton are equally tight at the back and their own defensive titans Jose Fonte and Virgil Van Dyke are also in great form. Under 2.5 goals is priced at -120 with SportingBet and this looks a great soccer pick. Under 3.5 goals is -333.33 with Ladbrokes and this is almost a banker.

Pelle has been in great form so far this season and has bagged six goals in 12 league games. He is the +325 soccer odds favorite to score first here and deservedly so. But also check out wingers Dusan Tadic (+510 with 888 and Unibet) and Sadio Mane (+440 with 888 and Unibet). Tadic takes Southampton’s penalties and scored the only goal in their victory over Bournemouth from the spot in their last game, while Mane has a keen eye for goal that has put him on Man Utd’s radar. Fonte (+1800 with 888) and Van Dijk (+1400 with 888) are dangerous from corners and represent interesting long shots. Stoke forward Jonathan Walters is also a decent outside bet at +1050 with 888.

If you find the -150 on offer for a Southampton victory a little short, check the correct score betting. You could hedge your bets across a few correct scores – 1-0 to Southampton (+550 at William Hill), 2-0 to Southampton (+650 with Bet Victor), 2-1 to Southampton (+850 with Bet Victor) and a 1-1 draw (+750 with Bet Victor).

An alternative would be to bet on Southampton’s defence holding strong and Southampton winning to nil, which is priced at +150 with Boyle Sports.
