The Saints face the Villans in the opening Premier League match with both keen to fend off chasing teams. William Hill's Lee Phelps looks at the soccer odds for his free betting pick.

Southampton and Aston Villa are just about over the line for what they have been targeting: Europa League football for Saints, which are home favorites on the soccer odds board for this fixture, and Premier League survival for Villa.

Southampton
Ronald Koeman's list of absentees through injury remains unchanged but James Ward-Prowse is back available following a suspension. Filip Djuricic and Shane Long will also be hoping to start after the defeat to Leicester last time out. In goal, Kelvin Davis may return to replace Paulo Gazzaniga following the latter's poor showing last weekend.

The media will have us believe that Koeman and Co don’t want to qualify for Europe and to be fair looking at his team’s form, you can see why, but the manager is pretty explicit in his desire: “We are fighting for a Europa League place - that's our Champions League. You have to see it like that.

"It's very difficult to beat the big ones in Premier League because of the players they have and can buy," he said. "Still, I think we are in a very good position. We know our level.

"It's our last home game. I think the fans deserve a win and we need a win," he said.

"It's all about us and not about Swansea. We have to win. If we win [the remaining two games] they can't pass us on the table. It's up to us.

"I think to be finished in the sixth position we need at least four points."

Koeman was quite critical of his side’s performance at Leicester and I’m struggling to see where he solves his biggest problem: attack. They have scored eight goals in the last six games and conceded eight too, so have failed to compensate for their creaking defence.

<var>Click Here & Shop for the Best Premier League Soccer Odds for this Weekends Action! </var>

Aston Villa
Tim Sherwood's squad is as close to full-strength as it has been since his appointment and after another win last weekend changes are likely to be minimal once more.

Ashley Westwood is keeping out Carlos Sanchez, with Richardson and Bacuna set to retain their places at full-back.

The main competition for a starting berth will again be between fit again Gabby Agbonlahor and Charles N'Zogbia.

Tom Cleverley scored his third goal in as many games to help Villa to a 1-0 win over West Ham last weekend, a result that leaves the Midlands club four points clear of the bottom three.

Soccer picks
Koeman’s men could enjoy more possession than the visitors but Villa will be competitive in midfield with the amount of bodies they will have there. The Villans will also continue to employ direct attacks with Benteke as the target for long balls while Agbonlahor provides a threat in behind.

I can see both teams scoring here and I also think both will happily take a point towards their respective goals so add the draw as your soccer pick this Saturday.

Free soccer pick: Draw 3.5 (5/2) at William Hill

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":299899, "sportsbooksIds":[43], "LineTypeId":2, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]
