The online criticism of the trailer for the movie based on the popular SEGA game character is going to cost Paramount a chunk of money as they make design changes to Sonic and push back release to February 2020.

It’s never a good when the trailer drops for your potentially blockbuster movie and it is met with major criticism and derision because of how a lead character looks.

And no, we’re not talking about Will Smith in “Aladdin.”

The backlash concerns the live-action Sonic The Hedgehog. Yeah, you heard us.

At issue from fans is that the iconic character from the SEGA video games has had a CGI makeover of epic proportions and people are not happy. Bottom line, moviemakers shouldn’t mess with characters that millions of people grew up with and played with for years and years.

The more-than-poor fan reaction also prompted prop bets on Bovada on how well or poorly the movie will do when it opens in November. Yeah, pretty sure the Paramount and SEGA marketing departments weren’t prepared to do damage control six months before tickets to “Sonic the Hedgehog” movie when on sale.

Now the changes are going to take more time and the movie will now be released in February 2020.

“Taking a little more time to make Sonic just right. #novfxartistswereharmedinthemakingofthismovie,” Fowler tweeted.

The objections to Sonic’s movie-looks focuses on the fact the beloved character looks more human than hedgehog with thicker, longer legs, small eyes and perfect teeth. His general proportions are just off, disgruntled fans raged. Online criticism was swift and harsh, ranging from “The Godfather” quotes to those outright saying the CGI artists should be charged with a crime:

“Look how they massacred my boy!”

“Who in the hell decided that this Should be what Sonic looks like? This is terrible.”

“This deserves jail time – period.”

“Huh … what is this blue rat supposed to be?

“Well, that #SonicTheHedgehog trailer is fucking weird. If I found him hiding in a shed I'd 100% kill him with a shovel and ask questions later.”

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Even more excited about Detective Pikachu now. Of course, the amount of change might be out of his hands.

The original budget for the film was $90 million and the “fix” is likely going to be pricey – though no one is offering up a probably price tag.
