Spurs come back to the pitch hoping for revenge against (any) Manchester following their 6-0 drubbing at the hands of City, while Man Utd look to steady the good ship Sans Fergie after another pair of dropped points. No one likes looking at the past, just imagine me asking Mrs Richardson to go out in last season’s boots, but after two whopping results last weekend you simply have to throw them into the mix looking at what will happen come Sunday.
Spurs were royally taken apart by Manchester City (6-0) while Man Utd dropped points again, drawing away to Cardiff (NB: Cardiff are 1250/1 on a top four finish even after Sunday’s heroics.)..
Enough with last weekend…..WHERE’S THE MONEY MIKE?
The sportsbooks have a United win at 8/5 a Spurs win at 13/8 and a draw which would feel like a defeat for United at 9/4. If that doesn’t make it clear enough for you who the bookies fancy, check out the soccer odds on Spurs finishing in the top four which are offered up at 10/3 while Man United finishing in the top four is at 4/9.
This fixture used to be all about Man Utd, like back in the good old days when the Red Devils used to take Spurs apart, and in fact excluding last season Man U had outscored Spurs 6-1 in the previous three games and considered White Hart Lane to be more of Three Point Lane.
But then the Spurs got a bit better and things changed. The last meeting between these sides was a 1-1 draw and the time before was tightly contested 3-2 victory for Spurs at Old Trafford.
Still Manchester United have lost only one (that one) of their last 24 Premier League meetings with Tottenham, with 17 ending in victories to the Reds, and Spurs have not tasted victory over a Manchester United side in 12 Premier League home games - a run stretching all the way back to 2001.
But things are different now
The shortest correct score odds are on 1-1 at 6/1, but I feel that Spurs will bounce back harder and woe will follow on Man U’s heels as the jinx comes to and end this weekend and Spurs beat Manchester United!
Manchester United have only won half of their league games this season and I feel a wobble will become a tremble and Spurs will put them to the proverbial.
It won’t be pretty and it won’t be nice, and it won’t be a heavy defeat, but the mighty will fall. Sweeten the bet a little by taking the soccer tip of backing the game to be level at the 45 and Spurs winning at the 90 at 11/2 or even at the Reds being up at the break followed by an implosion and Spurs taking it at the final whistle at soccer odds of 33/1.
Discounting the six they let in against City Spurs had scored half as many as they conceded so I’m backing a 2-1 home victory.
Perdition: Spurs win 2-1 available at 10/1 with Stan James.
