There’s easy money to be made over in Spain's top flight when Atletico Madrid take on Levante this coming weekend. Some might say (quite rightly) that it’s a foregone conclusion but that doesn't mean your Humble Handicapper can’t squeeze some more money out of the bookies’ purses.

At time of press Atletico Madrid are sitting second in the Spanish table and as the top spot is taken by a little team called Barcelona, that’s just like being top. In fact as Madrid have 43 points, just as many as Barcelona, they might as well be top. The two Spanish sides are setting a blistering pace this term and the usual Spanish stalwart of Real Madrid is left in poor third place, five points shy of the summit.

And there’s nothing to separate the two sides in terms of goals difference as Barcelona have just scored (and conceded) one more than Atletico, so this coming game is as important as any in the Spanish league next weekend.

Enough with the importance to the clubs…WHERE’S THE MONEY MIKE?

First things first, as the bookie see a clear winner in their soccer odds and sportsbooks fancy the home side to come right out on top. Madrid winning this game is at 1/5, while a draw is at 6/1 and a shock defeat is offered up at best odds of 18/1. Still those odds don’t tempt your Humble Handicapper at all, as he smells money elsewhere.

Just for the record, and just because it leads us nicely into our top soccer picks it’s worth looking at what Atletico Madrid have been up to this season.

What have Atletico Madrid been up to this season?

Atletico Madrid have scored 43 goals in their 16 league games this season, that’s an average of over 2.5 per game. Therefore you could do a lot worse than back this game to go over 2.5 goals at 4/9, if you think we’ll see a poor performance from the silver medal side why not back under 2.5 goals at 6/4, but don’t come crying to me when it doesn’t happen, as that ‘s not my soccer pick.

As I said Atletico have scored over two goals per game and have conceded a little over ½ per game (in the league) so you might as well start betting on 3-0 at 9/2 and 2-1 at the best soccer odds of 12/1 if you’re feeling fruity.

Levante, after 16 games have a very poor tally of goals

And points. That’s probably why they’re 11th in the league with 20 points and a goal difference of -7.  If you think that’s nothing why not back them to win this game (but be warned the shortest correct score odds on a Levante win are on 1-0 at 50/1) and if you're that way inclined why not back them to win both halves at 40/1 or go wild and back them being even at the break and then win on the 90 at 33/1 or go even wilder and back Madrid to be leading at the half way point before Levante take the game at the final whistle at 200/1. But if you want to throw your money away – you might as well give it to me.

Atletico Madrid will win this game and will win it at a canter.

You should know that you can also pick up Madrid winning to nil at 4/7.

Prediction: Madrid win (with a clean sheet) 4-0 at 10/1 with Ladbrokes. [/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":251805, "sportsbooksIds":[43], "LineTypeId":2, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]
