Man U descend on Aston Villa desperate to get back on track in the Premier League hunt. Find out what sportsbooks have to offer for this tilt and where the value soccer picks are to be had.

Man U are the hot favourites

Manchester United are listed as the hot favourites across sportsbooks for their weekend engagement with Aston Villa. Bet365 list Man U at a solid -133 to win outright despite recent questionable form; so suspect is their form that many soccer bettors question whether the Red Devils warrant such a vote of confidence and doubt they will even come through on those odds.

Man U are 13 points off pace. Sat in ninth on the back of a 6-4-5 record and 22 points, they have been wholly inconsistent under David Moyes in Premier League. Clubs such as Everton, Tottenham, Newcastle United and – surprise package of the season – Southampton all rank higher than the Red Devils do ahead of week 16 EPL betting.

Man U are after back-to-back defeats to Everton and Newcastle United, both of which came at the Old Trafford and were historic wins for the visitors. Prior to the defeats, Man U settled on back-to-back draws – a 2-2 draw to Tottenham and Cardiff City. Not since November 10 when Man U beat Arsenal 1-0 at the Old Trafford did they take full marks in Premier League.

The league’s form table lists Man U in 13th place overall with a 2-2-2 record in their last six home and away fixtures, a rank that puts them on par with the likes of Swansea for instance. And simply because of this questionable form, many experts are predicting an upset for this tilt, recommending Aston Villa at their staggering +425 soccer odds to win outright as the smart choice for your soccer picks.

Aston Villa massive underdogs

Aston Villa served notice with a win over Arsenal to start the season and did manage to surprise Man City at Villa Park but aside from those two isolated incidents that defied sports betting markets they haven’t fared well against the big clubs, especially at home where they are 2-1-4 and, more specifically, where they’ve only scored six goals and conceded nine.

Admittedly Aston Villa were dealt a tough draw to start the season with mostly top clubs calling including Liverpool, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton, all of which took full marks at Villa Park. The only bottom-half teams they’ve faced to date were Cardiff City and Sunderland, both of which were their last two callers. They beat Cardiff City 2-0 but drew scoreless against Sunderland. Neither of which is a strong recommendation for Aston Villa to turn the soccer odds in their favour when they host Man U, neither on the win or the draw which is trading at +280 at Bet365.

Soccer Betting Verdict: The perception of a vulnerable Man U rests behind predictions of an upset rather than anything impressive about Aston Villa (especially in recent weeks) that would suggest they are on the verge of a big win. Why, they could barely beat bottom-scrapers Sunderland. Fact is, Aston Villa have struggled at home this season. And perceptions can be deceiving. Man U have been up-and-down lately, but against lesser outfits they have been (for the most part) up to snuff. And with Aston Villa belonging to those lesser outfits this season (according to the current table landscape and form) the Red Devils appear to be the value soccer pick in our opinion.
