Swansea City vs Manchester City
The League Cup winners host the newly deposed EPL Champions this weekend, when the blue side of Manchester heads into Wales for this EPL clash.
The hosts are 15/4 with bet365 to make it a first win in seven games since lifting the League Cup in February, the visitors are looking for their fifth win in six and are 8/11 with William Hill to do so. The draw is at 11/4 with Ladbrokes.
Both these teams looked like they knew their league season was already over last time out, what with both having already secured a spot in Europe next season and having secured, pretty much, their finishing place(s) in the league.
With maintaining their position the only goal left to both teams now, what with Man City handing the EPL title back across the road to United last weekend and with Swansea already having achieved far more than they could have dreamt of back in August, who will find the right motivation and desire to take this game to the other?
How do I think Tottenham and Southhampton will play out?
Well, one more win and Man City are pretty much assured of second place and have an easy looking last four league games to overcome. Their only chance of silverware comes next weekend in the form of the FA Cup final, but with two matches before then it is a little early to be focusing on that one.
It may be a factor though as players will not want to be getting hurt or picking up a knock to jeopardise their place in the team next weekend and know that second is already well assured so they may take their foot off the gas so to speak. Swansea should be looking to capitalise on that fact and imposing themselves and their style on the game early if that is the case.
The corresponding fixture in October was a dour affair where both sides cancelled each other out for long spells, with the home side winning 1-0 thanks to a 61st minute Carlos Tevez 'wonder strike'. A repeat of that score is at 7/1 with William Hill and if you think Swansea can turn the tables this time then 1-0 is at 12/1 betting odds with bet365.
The Swans have largely relied on 21 goal sensation Michu this season, and what
a find he has been, but five other players scoring at least five goals each has
supported him well when he hasn't been scoring. They will need both weapons in
Europe next season as they enter the Europa League.
Michu is 15/2 to score first or last and 9/4 to net anytime. He is 11/1 to net a brace, which he has done more than any other Spanish player in Europe’s top five leagues this season. His 21 goals from 38 games have been scored at the rate of one every four shots he takes!
Man City with their wealth of talent have shared the goals about a bit too, in scoring 18 more than Swansea thus far. Carlos Tevez, (17) Sergio Aguero, (16) Edin Dzeko (13) and Yaya Toure (10) have all combined to total more than the entire Swansea team. Another 11 players have also netted this season so with goals coming from all angles it really is a case of spoilt for choice I'm afraid so check our live odds here at SBRForum.com to see where the best value lies in choosing the goalscorers in this one!
Swansea have drawn just twice in ten games and City last drew 13 matches ago. So, I will not be backing the draw at 13/5 for my soccer picks. I do not see many goals in this one though as City look to preserve themselves for the FA Cup and Swansea try to avoid defeat having lost four of their last six, drawing two.
The FA Cup aside, these two teams and both sets of fans are firmly looking to next season already having both secured their Wembley days out already and as is likely, both will end up with silverware as a result.
A great season for Swansea though they are limping to the line a little and of course for City second, while not good enough, does mean Champions League football and another crack at their city rivals next season on all fronts.
Away win for me at 3/4 with William Hill a correct score prediction of Man City 2-1 at 15/2 and the double result of Swansea/Man City at 25/1 with William Hill. Michu to score first at 15/2 with Will Hill.
