The Swans, days after firing Michael Laudrup, have wiped the slate clean and hope to start things off with a win over Cardiff on Saturday. Do they have what it takes to earn a spot in our soccer picks? Or are the odds against them?

Odds Overview

Even with a sudden manager change, Swansea City is favored at -105 to -115 to secure three points. You can lock in Cardiff City at a price of +350 to +375, while a draw starts at +250 and goes all the way up to +260 soccer odds.

Swansea City

Though they're still alive in the FA Cup and the Europa League and aren't really in any danger of getting relegated, the head honchos of the club decided to let Michael Laudrup go.

It was a curious decision and one many Swansea City fans disagree with. We'll just have to wait and see how the Swans respond to change and whether or not they take to new boss Garry Monk.

Monk is a former player who used to captain Swansea City. He obviously is lacking in managerial experience, so it'll be interesting to find out how he fares at the helm of a Premier League club. What a way to start off your career as a manager.

The Swans could really use a positive result to kick-start their season again. They're coming off a 2-0 loss away to West Ham, a match in which they controlled possession and mustered up 20 total shots, though there were very few clear-cut chances in front of goal.

Swansea City owns a 3-4-5 mark at home in league play so far, which is obviously not a sparkling record. The fans will stand behind their team no matter what, but one has to wonder if the players can rise to the occasion after such a sudden and unexpected change.

Cardiff City

Days after losing 2-0 at Old Trafford, the Bluebirds bounced back to beat Norwich City 2-1 at home.

New boy Kenwyne Jones and old reliable Craig Bellamy scored the goals for Cardiff City, giving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his first win since taking charge of the club.

Solskjaer hasn't been shy about making moves, but the signings have already been paying off. Getting Wilfried Zaha on loan from Manchester United was a great bit of business, while Jones and Fabio immediately stepped into the starting XI.

The harsh reality remains though that Cardiff City remains in 19th place in the Premier League. They're in the relegation picture right now, but at least they're joined by quite a few other clubs in the danger zone.

Playing away from home hasn't been kind at all to the Bluebirds though. They've won only one time in 12 matches, scoring a grand total of seven goals and allowing in 23.

Premier League Pick

OK, so the Swans are at home this weekend and they have a very good scoring record there so far this season.

Unfortunately, as good as they've been going forward, they've been equally poor defensively, which leads us to believe they'll give up at least a goal on this occasion.

Cardiff seems to be buying into Solksjaer's style and should be able to build off their first win of his reign. We're looking for the Bluebirds to make things tough on the hosts, so we'll be recommending a draw as one of our soccer picks.

Pick: Swansea City 1 Cardiff City 1
