It is a bad time to be Sunderland fan and a good time to a Liverpool fan, but it's a great time to the gambling fan with your Humble Handicapper’s tips for this match.

Your Humble Handicapper is the sort of handicapper who admits when he is wrong; and he really must put his hand up now and admit that he was wrong about Liverpool beating Southampton. But honestly, did anybody see that coming? If you did see that coming, please log onto the SBR Forum and let me know which fortune-teller you’ve been visiting.

Enough with the sour grapes… WHERE’S THE MONEY, MIKE?

Liverpool, who started last weekend top of the table, get the chance to make up for their puzzling home defeat against Southampton with a team that will be starting next weekend at the foot of the table.

Liverpool have a very uninspiring one goal per game average so far this season, but they will take great heart from the fact that Sunderland have a single solitary point and are the only side in the league without a win under their belt. Sunderland have conceded over 2 goals per game on average and have scored slightly more than half a goal per game so far.

Stating the Obvious

Therefore it's no surprise that you should be betting on Liverpool to win and Sunderland to lose. Liverpool are 4/6 for the victory, while Sunderland are 4/1 to catch their first three points of the season; the draw (which would certainly look like points dropped by Liverpool and not sufficient by Sunderland) is 11/4 in the soccer betting odds.

Future Focused

Now is as good a time as any to mention the Liverpool are 12/1 to win the Premier League next season; if you fancy a laugh, you should know that Sunderland run as high as 7500/1. I think neither of these teams will win the league, but the difference in the odds shows you the gulf between the two clubs at present.

Coincidence? I think not.

If you feel that you would like to bet on something to do with Sunderland you can pick up on their manager being shown the door before any other gaffer; at 8/11, he is the bookies sports betting favourite for the first P-45 of the year. And for the record Sunderland are 11/10 to be relegated this season.

Looking at what the bookies think beyond the obvious, the shortest correct score odds on Liverpool winning are 1-0 at 11/2, Liverpool winning 2-0 is 6/1 and them winning 2-1 is 7/1.

Before we get to the correct score odds for a Sunderland win, we get a 1-1 draw at 6/1 and a 0-0 draw at 11/1. The lowest correct score odds for a home win are on 1-0 at 14/1.

Liverpool Will Win…

There seems to be no doubt anywhere about that; although I'm sure did say something similar about Liverpool's match against Southampton. (Editor's note: Yup, pretty much.) But next weekend, Liverpool will come out firing and scoring and they will take their Southampton frustrations out on Sunderland. Your Humble Handicapper has spoken. Liverpool for your soccer picks
