Southampton has been one of the pleasant surprises of the season so far – will they do enough to secure all three points against Hull City?

Odds Overview

The Saints are at -175 to win outright on Sunday for our soccer picks, which would keep the pressure on the rest of the top half of the table.

Hull City comes in with a price of +625, while a draw is in and around the +300 area. Find more of these soccer betting lines at

It hasn't been the best of weeks for Southampton despite their excellent overall start to the campaign. The Saints have drawn with Stoke City away and then lost to Sunderland in the Capital One Cup during the week.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino rested a lot of first-choice options in the loss, with Rickie Lambert, Pablo Osvaldo, Jose Fonte, and Atur Boruc (just to name a few) not featuring at all and Adam Lallana coming on as a substitute.

Southampton was still able to create a few chances despite the extensive lineup changes, but it wasn't mean to be against the Black Cats. Maya Yoshida scored the lone goal in the defeat.

Despite that tough loss in the cup, the Saints have been so impressive that two of their players have been called up into the national team fold. Lallana and Jay Rodriguez are two exciting young players and their outstanding performances haven't gone unnoticed.

Lallana and Rodriguez will try to make the difference on Sunday, with the pair already combining for five league goals and three assists on the season.

Hull City

Hull City has to be content with the way they've been playing lately. They made life extremely difficult on Tottenham in the two meetings a couple weeks back, first in the Premier League and then in the Carling Cup.

And whereas the Saints lost to Sunderland in their most recent fixture, the Tigers are coming off a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Black Cats.

Though only one goal was scored, it was quite the eventful match. Carlos Jimenez Cuellar had put the ball in his own net, gifting Hull City the win, and two red cards for Sunderland at the end of the first half all but ensured the Tigers would grab the win.

It's always crucial whenever you get three points in a Premier League fixture. In this case, it kept Hull in the middle of the pack, having totaled 14 points through 10 domestic matches.

The Tigers, however, have not fared well away from home throughout the season, losing four of their five trips straight up. They've scored four goals in total and let in nine, not the best of signs with this encounter at St. Mary's Stadium looming.

Premier League Pick

While Hull City has been battling tough, it's hard to imagine them making much happen against Southampton.

The Saints have been wonderful to watch so far and they'll be back at home, where they're still undefeated in Premier League play (three wins, two draws), while surrendering just one goal in that span.

Pair that with the Tigers' struggles away from home and we have to back a straightforward win for Sunderland this weekend.
