Misery loves company
What is happening at the Emirates? The wheels seem to have come well off Arsenal’s season, with them being vomited out of all competition for a cup (their last chance of Silverware, the Champions League hangs by a highly unlikely thread after their 3-1 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich). Arsenal are still Evens to finish top Four this season, the same odds as Villa going down and the Gunners host Aston Villa, a team at the opposite end of the EPL table this weekend.
I feel that despite the league position and despite the talent on offer to Le Proffessor, this game has a whiff of shock upset to it. Villa will be feeling good after their win against West Ham while Arsenal will be all shook up after a pair of bad results. Villa are a tempting 10/1 with bet365 to take three points off Arsenal. So maybe add a Villa win to your sports picks (but don’t bet too heavily).
Oh, did I mention that Arsene Wenger is now 4/1 to be the next manager sacked? Well he is.
Banker or Wild Card
When Manchester (1/16 to win the EPL) United face QP (1/4 to go down) R, one of two things will happen, 1) Manchester United will romp it or 2) Pigs will fly. I really can’t see any reason to bet against the Champions elect in this game unless you're the crazy sort who just has too much money in his bank account.
United are four for four in their last four meetings with QPR (home and away) and have outscored them 8-1. It’s no surprise that an away win is at 9/20 on most soccer odds boards, while a home win is at 6/1 (LOL bets only) is at xxx and even a surprise draw is at 10/3.
Not sure of the gulf between these sides? well United are undefeated in their last five games in all competitions and QPR are winless in the same stretch. In fact United have won eight of the last ten league games (the other two being draws) while QPR have only won twice in their last ten. Add United to your soccer picks and bet goals.
Newcastle V Southampton Sunday
Back a home win in this game, the Geordies need the points more than Southampton, and despite the fact the at the Saints have a better position in the EPL table I feel that (regardless of what happens in the Europa League with Newcastle on Thursday night) the Geordies (or Les Geordies) will be well up for it against Southampton.
Southampton may have beaten Newcastle 2-0 in the reverse of this fixture back in November, but that was before the French invasion. 2-0 to Southampton is available at 22/1 with Stan James, while the same revenge score to Newcastle is at 9/1. Any Home win is at 11/10 a draw is at 12/5 and an away win is at 13/5, but mark my word the Saints will go marching home, like a broken pencil…pointless.
West Brom V Sunderland
There are plenty of other matches out there but this one caught my eye as West Brom have a sniff of a big finish. Should the weekend’s results go their way they would find themselves sitting pretty in 7th place above Liverpool and Swansea. But to do that they‘d have to beat Sunderland. And beat Sunderland they will. The Baggies have come out on top in four of their last five meetings with the Black Cats and have put four past them in their last two meetings. Also WBA will be all fired up after their 2-0 victory over Liverpool while Sunderland couldn't even get a win at home over Arsenal in their last game. West Brom winning is at 11/10 and the score I’d pick is 3-1 at 19/1.Soccer Prediction: Wins for West Brom, Newcastle, Manchester United (‘natch) and maybe Villa.
