Tottenham’s good fortunes

The decision to sign Tim Sherwood as the Spurs’ new coach following AVB’s ignominious exit from the club is proving to be an auspicious decision. The Spurs are enjoying renewed fortunes in the league, back inside the elite six with a three-point edge over Manchester United and just a point shy of Everton (fifth) and two points adrift of Liverpool (fourth).

A top four finish is still a realistic possibility although they are listed at +350 soccer odds at Bet365 to accomplish the feat, a considerable distance behind Man U at +188. Man City have this market cornered at -6600 soccer odds followed by Chelsea at -1200, Arsenal at -700 and Liverpool at -150.

Tottenham boast a 12-4-5 record in the league and 40 points in 21 laps. Both home and road form is good but the latter is marginally better – they are 5-3-3 at home and 7-1-2 on the road –and that goes some way towards explaining their favourable odds across online sportsbooks to win outright at Swansea City at the weekend.

Spurs are listed as the favourites albeit on the short side of even money at +140 to win outright at Bet365, a feat that would extend their league form to six games undefeated; they are currently 4-1-0 in their last five and over this positive stretch, they beat Southampton 3-2 on the road as well as Man U 2-1 at the Old Trafford.

Swansea City underrated?

Sportsbooks are sending Swansea into their home clash with the Spurs at the decided disadvantage, listing the win at +180 soccer odds and the draw at around +240-250, depending on the online betting platform of choice.

A conspicuous dip in form has a large part to do with this market cast. But how much stock should we put into those poor results when it’s glaringly obvious they are courtesy of the league’s toughest opponents, most of which occupy lofty positions in the table?

The Swans, sat 13th in the table on the back of a 5-6-10 mark and 21 points from 21 matches, have lost four of their last five league games; they are 0-1-4, a run of form that features clashes with both Manchester clubs, Chelsea and Everton – all of which were always going to be a big ask for the Swans. Their only point during this stretch came against Aston Villa when the pair settled on the 1-1 draw at Villa Park.

Indeed the Swans are going through a rough patch that is exacerbated by a unforgiving schedule, which has them taking on the top half of the league almost exclusively. The Spurs will be their sixth top club in a row; talk about no favours from the schedule.

Unfortunately, the schedule comes at a steep price for the Swans as they are now just three points clear of the drop zone. That the date with the Spurs is their last big clash for the time being is something to look forward to but, at the same time, mindful of relegation, which looms just three points away, the premium on gaining a result here couldn’t be any bigger. So can the Swans defy the odds in their favour?

Soccer Betting Verdict

Swansea City are desperate for a win but they can’t seem to buy a win against the big clubs no matter how hard they try. While they did beat Man U in midweek FA Cup action, proving they are able to rise to the occasion. They just don’t do it consistently enough to make them a good soccer pick, as the subsequent defeat to Man U in league action proved. Therefore, Tottenham to win outright at +140 seems to be the value soccer pick here.
