Barcelona look to bounce back against Almeria in week 26 of Primera Division. And if soccer-betting markets were any indication, it would appear to be a foregone conclusion. So where are the value soccer picks?
Barcelona drop to second place
The previous round of Primera Division betting saw Barcelona upset by Real Sociedad 3-1 at the Anoeta. You could say odds makers didn’t see it coming, so confident were they of a Barcelona win that a home win by La Real was matched at staggering +650 soccer odds. Tale told La Real turned the odds in their favour, which in fact was an extension of their undefeated form against Barcelona on their stomping ground.
Although it was only the third defeat on the season, it couldn’t have been a more costly one nor could it have come at a more costly time when Barcelona and their main rivals from Madrid were all level on 60 points at the top of the table. Week 25 in La Liga betting was put to bed so, with both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid dropping points and Real Madrid traipsing to the top of the table on a three-point edge.
Nowhere was the impact of that week felt more so than in futures betting markets readdressing forthwith, moving Real Madrid to the vanguard with -150 futures odds to win the title outright (up from +140 a week ago). Barcelona, in the meantime, were downgraded from -120 to +150 futures odds. The real losers however were Atletico Madrid who saw their price tag move from already generous +800 future odds to even more so at +1400.
Barcelona are going through a rough patch of late, a touch of inconsistency that has them dropping more points than they are used to normally. Since the New Year, they’ve gone 4-2-2 overall but just 1-2-1 in their La Liga travels, the latter of which in most cases is a run of form that isn’t too bad really. In their case however it is alarming given their lofty standards.
Nothing less than three points will do in their upcoming engagement. Fortunately, Barcelona are back to their beloved Camp Nou where they have been a nigh perfect 11-0-1 this season. Better yet, they face a La Liga straggler in Almeria, a side sat 16th in the table and four points clear of the drop zone. Hardly the sort of side that would instil fear in Barca hearts.
Predictably, Barcelona go into their clash as the favourites and just about everybody in soccer betting circles expects they’ll come through. Although at no nonsense -2000 soccer odds at Bet365, they’re hardly worth the wager. On the flipside of the coin, Almeria are listed at hallucinatory +3300 soccer odds to mastermind the upset at Camp Nou, what is a pipedream in no uncertain terms.
Granted, Almeria did send seismic shockwaves through sports betting markets recently when they upset Atletico Madrid on February 8; however, that was on their home turf. It’s hardly likely they’d manage the same on the away where they are struggling something awful of late, let alone on the hallowed greens at Camp Nou. At the moment, they are riding a four-game losing streak on the road, which is highlighted by a combined score of 10-1.
Soccer Betting Verdict
Undoubtedly, this is a home banker but avid soccer enthusiasts, looking to pad their pockets, will need to look elsewhere for the value soccer picks. Towards that end, here are a few that we’ve identified.
Barcelona need a face-saving performance at home, not least restore faith towards their title bid that thanks to La Real has waned. It’s more likely than not that Tata Martino will send out his troops to wreck vengeance on a hapless Almeria and so we fancy either the Over 3.5 at -200 or even the Over 4.5 at +120 with William Hill.
Both teams to score is listed at an attractive +125 with William Hill while Bet365 offers the Barcelona and Yes at +160 (Result/both teams to score). Given Almeria’s recent struggles on road, particularly in the scoring department, it would seem rather unlikely that they’ll find the back of the net in Barcelona. And so we’re quite partial to just Barcelona to score at -175.
