Manchester United and Hull City collide in midweek Premier League betting. With odds already in full swing, here’s a primer on Man U’s final home game of the season along with choice soccer picks for your consideration.

Man U’s final home game
Manchester United are slated to play their final home game of the season against Hull City on Tuesday night as the -275 favourites across sportsbook platforms. But in what has been a highly disappointing season for the titleholders, plagued with gross transitional issues and punctuated by embarrassing defeats at the Old Trafford, diehard Man U fans can’t take anything for granted including such favourable odds.

Everything that could have gone wrong this season for Man U has. They are outside of European spots, hovering in mid-table obscurity. They’ve lost seven home games already, shattering the veneer of the invincible fortress that was the Theatre of Dreams. Overall, they have drifted to 12 defeats this season to teams from all sides of the table. And finally they fired their coach David Moyes, with just a few weeks left on the unmemorable season.

Manchester United are still in play for a Top 6 finish this season, although it’s increasingly looking more like a pipedream rather than a realistic ambition at +2000 futures odds. Tottenham have this market cornered on -6600 futures odds and it would take something special to topple them from the coveted spot.

Being beaten by hapless Sunderland at the Old Trafford at the weekend isn’t an example of that required something, something special. If anything, the 1-0 defeat to the Black Cats at the weekend highlights further just how badly things have gone wrong for the defending champions and how hard it’s going to be to claim those desperately needed nine points. It has certainly put paid on any Top 6 notion in the minds of many soccer fans. What’s more, it sends visitors to the Theatre of Dreams on a wave of optimism, hopeful that they could gain a meaningful result against the odds on the hallowed grounds of the Old Trafford

Hull City to capitalise?
While sportsbooks tip Hull City as the decided long shots at +800 soccer odds to beat Man U at the Old Trafford, sports bettors have to consider it’s still a possible outcome. Sunderland weren’t matched at better odds. But didn’t they frolic to the unlikely victory.

Steve Bruce and his Tigers certainly will fancy their chances as they look to heap more misery on the clueless Red Devils. Hull City have ensured Premier League safety with a 10-7-19 mark and 37 points. The book on their relegation prospects closed as Sunderland and Norwich are left to duke out the final relegation spot, which means they will be able to play more freely and without any pressure.

Hull City are through to the FA Cup final this year and so shouldn’t be judged simply by their standing in the table. They could join the ranks of the improbable that have shocked Man U at the Old Trafford, such as West Bromwich, Everton, Newcastle United, Tottenham and Sunderland. Heck, even relegated Fulham almost beat Man U but had to settle for a draw.

Soccer Betting Verdict: With a game in hand Man U have a mathematical chance to close the six-point gap in the table between them and the Spurs (with two games left on the season). There is also no question about how desperate they are to close the home portion of their season on a victory over Hull City and, in turn, at least keep the illusion of hope for a Top 6 finish alive for another week.

But with all the pressure riding on the outcome of this game and on Ryan Giggs’ fledgling managerial career, the occasion is threatening to take hold and, in turn, Hull City could capitalise as the +800 long shots. The upshot: Man U could seem to a bit pricey at -275 for your soccer picks.

That said Man U to bounce back is more likely outcome than Man U to suffer a second straight shock defeat at the Old Trafford is. If only because they owe their fans (as well as Ryan Giggs mind) a much better account than the unmemorable 1-0 defeat to Sunderland.

Soccer Free Picks: Man U to win outright at -275; Over 2.5 -175
