Premier League serves up a big clash between Manchester United and Arsenal at the weekend, arguably, the match of the week in Europe as a whole. Join us as we breakdown this all-important tilt and deliver our soccer free picks.

Arsenal, mind the gap!

Soccer betting markets are in full swing, with incessant waves of action coming down the wire on this mega Premier League tilt that hopefully will live up to its hype.

Arsenal are flying high in Premier League right now, five-points ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool in the table, both of which are set at 20 points and in second and third respectfully. It goes without saying Arsenal will be minding the gap, mindful to not fall into it when they take on Manchester United at the Old Trafford this weekend.

After a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Chelsea in League Cup action, the Gunners embarked on a tough a seven day stretch that began with a crucial 2-0 victory over Liverpool at the Emirates, followed by a gauntlet-throwing 1-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund on the road. Now they’ll be looking to wrap up the week with another statement at the Old Trafford.

Manchester United meanwhile are after a disappointing scoreless draw at Real Sociedad in Champions League action. While the result maintains their undefeated form through eight straight games across all competitions it left something to be desired.

Looking at some of Man U’s previous fixtures in Premier League is cause for concern. Those most questionable were a loss to West Brom and draw to Southampton. If both those sides can rip through Man U, one has to wonder what Arsenal can do?

The clash with Stoke City was a lucky escape; Man U should have probably lost that one. Oh. Let’s not forget the walloping they received by Man City earlier this season. That result is right up Arsenal’s alley you’d think. Indeed, Man U have to be wary of Arsenal right now, their only hope will be to play the match of the season and both Van Persie and Rooney will need to step it up – none of that dilly dallying that they do on occasion.

As far as soccer betting markets go however Manchester United are installed as the favourites, albeit on the short side of even money at +135 while Arsenal are listed at rather long +225 soccer odds to win outright at Bet365. The draw meanwhile is tipped at +250.

Soccer Betting Verdict:

Man U have recently picked up the pace, evinced by their undefeated form through eight games. But does that mean they have improved since the start of the season or are they simply as good as their schedule? Let’s face it a stretch of games that includes West Brom, Sunderland, Southampton, Fulham, Norwich and Stoke is a kind schedule on paper. That they wobbled at all defies reason, begs the question whether they are good enough to challenge Arsene Wenger and his shiny soccer baubles that are sat pretty atop the league right now.

Undoubtedly Man U have the talent and depth to do so and that alone makes them a solid soccer pick at +135 to win outright. However, everything hinges on David Moyes’ tactics. Whether he adapts his side’s formation to play against Arsenal and allows Rooney and Van Persie to be most effective. From what we’ve seen of Moyes’ though, adaptability isn’t a word that comes to mind and that plays perfectly into Arsenal – more specifically, The Professor – to outwit Man U and David Moyes. Arguably, this match is going to be more than a battle on the pitch. It’s going to be a battle of the minds and if we we’re to back anybody right now in that category it’s hands down Arsene Wenger over David Moyes. As such, we’re plumping down to Arsenal’s attractive +220 odds to win outright at Bet365 as our value soccer pick.
