The only team in Manchester with genuine title chances takes on a Sunderland side who look like they’ve turned the (bad) corner on their mini-returns, and your Humble Handicapper expects a kicking of biblical proportions and lots of money winning!

Let’s put these two sides into some form of perspective. City are 7/5, second favourites to win the league this season while Sunderland are 7/4 (fourth favourite) to be relegated. That sums up who will win, but with the best soccer odds on a City win at 2/11 you will have to look elsewhere for the big money bet.

Long story short, last weekend was bad for Man City and worse for Sunderland. The Black Cats saw their winning run come crashing to a halt as Shane Long and Nikica Jelavic scored a goal each as Hull beat their 10 remaining men and collect a Premier League win for the first time this year (and only their second away from the KC Stadium all season). Good for Hull, bad for the Black Cats as it ended Sunderland's three-match winning run.

Still Sunderland would love to have City’s problems

A goalless draw at struggling Norwich was clearly two points dropped by City, and was bitterer still coming as it did on the heels of their first home defeat the match before, but that just means that they’ll have to bounce back doubly hard. Sunderland winning this game is at a massive 19/1 and even a draw is at 7/1 (avoid both!).

Before Chelsea & Norwich, City had a run of eight consecutive top-flight victories, and have only been beaten once at home all season, while Sunderland have only won three times on the road all season (conceding 17 goals on their travels).

History tells us nothing this time

The last three meeting between these have all ended 1-0 (twice to Sunderland) and Sunderland were the only team not to lose at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League in the 2011-12 season. But City having won 17 of their 19 home games in all competitions and scored 72 goals in the process and Manuel Pellegrini's men have won 11 of their 12 Premier League fixtures on home soil this term, finding the net 42 times. Sunderland will get a big fat kicking.

The bookies have the shortest Correct Score Odds on a Sunderland victory at 50/1 (2-1) and 1-0 is at 55/1. What’s more City winning both halves is at a mere 4/7 while Sunderland winning any half (Sunderland / City) is at 25/1 and Sunderland coming out on top (Draw/Sunderland ) is at 33/1.

The bookies have City winning by a single goal (1-0 and 2-1) at 9/1 which clearly implied we’ll see them win by a decent margin. In fact a winning margin of 4 or more goals is at just 3/1. If you want a safe as houses bet go for the game going Over 2.5 goals at best soccer odds of 2/5 for your soccer pick, but stay away from the fools’ bet that is Under 2.5 at 7/4.

Sunderland will fold, City will trump them and we’ll see plenty of goals.

Prediction: Man City win (‘natch) 5-0 available at best odds of 19/1 with BetVictor.
