The Betting odds are stacked against Sunderland as they get set to do battle with Sergio Aguero and the Citizens.

Odds Overview

The mismatch in terms of the soccer betting lines would be even worse if it weren't for the fact Sunderland will be at home on this occasion.

Nonetheless, City is still a firm favorite in the -250 to -270 range, leaving the Black Cats at a betting odds price of +850. Correctly predicting a draw would pay out approximately +400.

Sunderland

Gus Poyet didn't exactly inherit the best of situations, but he's done his due diligence so far, including a hard-fought 2-1 win over Southampton in the Carling Cup during the week.

The Saints have been one of the most exciting sides in the Premier League so far this season, but Sunderland did enough at home to move on to the quarter-finals of the competition. It certainly helped that the Saints rested some key names, but a win's a win regardless.

The goalscorers on the day were Phillip Bardsley and Sebastian Larsson. After losing to Hull City 1-0 last weekend, it was the perfect way to get back on track for Poyet's gang.

Now the focus shifts to an incredibly daunting tie with City. No doubt it'll help to be in the noisy Stadium of Light, a venue that possesses one of the best atmospheres in England.

That being said, playing at home hasn't translated to the best of results for Sunderland in 2013. They've played five Premier League matches in front of their own fans and have lost four times, while scoring a total of five goals and allowing 10.

Manchester City

Ever since a 2-1 loss to Chelsea in the league, the Citizens have been on fire, winning three straight matches while scoring 14 goals and giving up four.

They beat Newcastle 2-0 in the Capital One Cup, thrashed Norwich City 7-0 in the Premier League, and then topped CSKA Moscow 5-2 in the Champions League. Domestically, City finds themselves tied for fourth place alongside Southampton and Everton.

The win over the Russian side was about as clinical as they come. All five goals were scored by the tandem of Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo, with the latter netting an impressive hat-trick in the easy win at the Etihad.

The victory means the Citizens have earned themselves a spot in the knockout stages of the competition, a great accomplishment this early on in the campaign.

There were a couple negatives to come from the victory though. Injuries were picked up by David Silva and Fernandinho and it looks like both are doubts to feature in this weekend's visit to Sunderland.

Premier League Pick

Some may look at this fixture and automatically assume it'll be a walk in the park for City, but we expect a great fight from Sunderland for our soccer picks this weekend.

The Black Cats appear to playing with a great deal of pride under their new manager and the results have been turning around because of it. This is a great chance for the underdog to give everything they've got against a mighty talented team in Man City and we look for them to rise to the occasion.

So, when it comes down to it and we have to figure out where the best value with our soccer picks is, we have to recommend a narrow win for the Citizens, though a handicap play on Sunderland (perhaps +1?) could be another way to go here in what we expect to be a dogfight.
