With the international window out of the way we’re back to Premier League and this weekend slate has given us one of the most highly anticipated matchups of the season. We are talking about Liverpool and Manchester United, so join us while we break down the odds available for this game and share a great value pick.

Although they may not be direct geographical rivals there has always been intense competition between Liverpool and Manchester United. Some would say it’s because Liverpool was the team of the 80’s and Manchester United usurped them and dominated the 90’s. Others argue it goes back further than that and entails the growth of the two cities.

Whatever the reason this fixture is often fiercely contested and with both sides looking to make a title challenge this season, this time, should be no different.

Liverpool has been picked out as early contenders for the title after playing some sublime football in the early stages of the season. The loss against Burnley was a bit of a surprise but they haven’t lost another game since then and were sparkling in their demolition of last season’s champions Leicester.

Manchester United have shown their quality in fits and starts so far this season. They’ve spent a huge amount of money to bring in undoubted ability but it’s taken them some time to start to gel. They too picked up a solid win against Leicester and it looked as though they may have finally clicked and were about to push on. Then they played out a 1-1 draw against Stoke and even though Mourinho said it was their best performance of the season, myself and others weren’t as impressed.

These two faced each other 4 times last season as they were drawn against each other in the Europa League as well as their regular Premier League fixtures. Those matches saw Liverpool pick up 1 win (a crucial win in the Europa League), Manchester United pick up 2 wins (both league) and one drawn match.

Overall Manchester United have the edge in head to head results with a win 39.9% of the time. Liverpool turn that on its head though when you filter out matches played away from Anfield. In home matches against Manchester United, Liverpool does very well with a 47.6% win-rate.

Bet365, where you can get 100% Cash bonuses, are offering some attractive odds on any of the 3 possible outcomes in the match odds market. They’re giving great priced odds for a home win which is a nice option if you’re impressed by Liverpool's 100% home record so far this season (albeit from only 2 games). The draw is offered at 3.5 which is the same odds as an away win.

I have to say I’m leaning towards the home win and the odds on offer from Bet365 does give us a bit of value (anything above 2.1 is a good soccer pick). They’ve got the pace to worry a slightly shaky Manchester United defense and Jurgen Klopp will be looking for ways to nullify the impact of players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic (6 to be the first goalscorer with bet365). The each way unlimited places offer that Bet365 give in this match could come in useful as that would still pay you out at evens if you go each way (paid out at 1/3 no matter when he scores).

Of all the first goalscorer bets I have to say the betting line on offer for Marcus Rashford looks very tempting as I think he’s played his way into Mourinho’s side and Liverpool have looked susceptible to pace this season, especially if Lovren is playing.

Mourinho may be calling for respect from his supporters in the build up to this match but I expect all respect to go out of the window once the whistle is blown and for both sides to be battling it out for a win. It should be a fantastic match and will be one I certainly won’t miss.
