Both Juventus and Galatasaray will be looking for their first win in group action when they collide in Turin on Wednesday. While Juventus settled on a surprise 1-1 draw with FC København in round one, Galatasaray were disemboweled by Real Madrid 6-1, a result that prompted the dismissal of manager Fatih Terim last week. Negotiations are in place for Roberto Mancini to assume the managerial role however even if the dapper Italian were to assume responsibility before the clash, surely there isn’t enough time for him to make an immediate impact. What all this seemingly amounts to is a rather straightforward affair on paper as well as in reality.

Betting on the winner

Given the state of affairs in Galatasaray’s camp, it’s hardly surprising that soccer odds makers send them into their clash with Juventus as the whopping underdogs quoted at +1000 at William Hill and as high as +1200 at Bet365. Only the most hopeful and optimistic punter and fan alike would expect Galatasaray to orchestrate something as meaningful as a win or draw in Turin (the draw is quoted at +400 at William Hill and at +450 at Bet365.

Going against Galatasaray as well is a run of form that leaves something to be desired. While they are unbeaten in the Turkish Super Lig they have only been able to muster up four draws in five games – the lone win coming at the start of the season.

As expected Juventus are the runaway sports betting favourites at -333 to win outright at both William Hill and Bet365. Of course, while their odds have been helped along by the disarray in Galatasaray, they are also underscored by a solid run of form in domestic action that includes an unbeaten run (5-1-0), on the back of which they are sat pretty in third place in the table, level on points with Napoli at 16 and two points behind leaders Roma.

All things being considered, Juventus is the only smart pick in this match to win. Nothing about the Turkish side, even the confirmation of Mancini as their manager, suggests they are poised to deliver a shock upset over Juventus.

Betting the Total and Scores

Naturally, most scores favouring a Juventus win are priced short. The best priced score is a 2-0 win at +550 while a 1-0 and 3-0 win are quoted at +700. The shortest priced score featuring both sides scoring is a 2-1 win to Juventus at +750. While a 1-1 draw is going for +800 at Bet365. By comparison, the Turkish side of the coin begins in the four-digits at +2000 for a 1-0 score – just goes to show how heavily the odds are stacked against Galatasaray and the improbability of a pick which includes a win by the Turkish side actually coming through.

Interesting to note that the odds makers favour the 'Over' 2.5 at -200 for this match when Juventus has been rather stingy on offense scoring on average only one goal a game and, well, the same goes for Galatasaray. This fact lends the Under 2.5 at +150 much more appeal as the better soccer pick wouldn’t you think? It seems bookies are taking a page from the Real Madrid game, expecting another blowout here.
