The Serie A is winding down this weekend. It’s the last chance for soccer betting fans to cash in on matches with that decided Italian flavour, including the tilt between Inter Milan and Udinese

These two clubs are thus far, enjoying opposite fortunes. So, before we say our final arrivederci, find out where the money is to be had with our sports picks.

Inter Milan playing for pride

Inter Milan (16-6-15) are out of the running for a European spot, sitting ninth in the Serie A table on 54 points – 33 points adrift of top of the table Juventus, just to give you a quantifiable measure of their form this season – they enter their final game of the season with nothing but pride left to play for.

Fans and soccer bettors alike can’t be faulted if they’re not convinced by the Nerazzuri’s intentions. Why, odds makers aren’t, having gone to press with betting odds that install Inter as the clear underdogs on their own stomping ground at the San Siro. William Hill for example is trading Inter at +240 on the soccer odds boards for the outright win.

Casting Inter as such has everything to do with their unconvincing form of late that includes seven defeats in their last ten overall Serie A fixtures, a 1-1-3 mark in their last five overall Serie A fixtures. Over this run of poor form, five times they conceded at least two goals or more and four times they were held goalless.

The most recent turn about the league was an unmemorable performance against a hapless Genoa that resulted in a scoreless stalemate. Yup, that’s right. Genoa. A side that’s hovering above relegation and only just avoided it by the skin of its teeth.

Inter takes an 8-4-6 mark at home into their final clash, what is a marked departure in form of the Inter of previous seasons. This is not the illustrious Italian club soccer fans have come to know over the years and support and that dominates domestic action. It’s but a shadow of its former self. Three years ago Inter were on top of the soccer world. Oh, how the mighty have fallen (somebody call Jose Mourinho and give him his old job back!).

It’s hardly surprising then that markets put very little stock in the win column. Still, if you are so inclined, Paddy Power offers you a bit more quid for your play at +260 on Inter for the win.

What is going on this week over in the EPL?

Udinese looks to make a statement

Unlike Inter, Udinese is enjoying a standout season. Fifth in the table on 63 points, they are set to extend their streak of European finishes to three in a row with a win over Inter Milan.

A win over Inter would mean a lot to Udinese as they have been largely dominated by Inter over the years. In 39 meetings altogether, Inter has a 20-9-10 record over Udinese. Recent years have seen Udinese improve against Inter – since the 2010/11 season, Udinese have the slight edge with a 3-0-2 mark. Earlier this season, Udinese won the reverse fixture 3-0 at home.

Interesting to note: the last seven fixtures delivered a clear-cut winner – four times by a goal and three times by two goals or more. The draw is on offers at +250 at both Paddy Power and William Hill but the trend between these two stands against it. Of course, invariably trends end.

Udinese looks to sweep the series this season with a win at the San Siro and if form were an indication, they really do look to be the better side to do just that. They are enjoying a nine-game undefeated run ahead of this clash, of which they’ve won the last seven straight and three times maintained a clean sheet.

Odds makers certainly are leaning towards an Udinese win. William Hill is offering a -105 price tag while Paddy Power is set on evens.

Soccer Betting Verdict

Udinese has European motivation to win this game. As well, motivation to sweep the series and, in turn, heap more misery on Inter, a side that dominated Serie A from 2005-2010 and finished runner-up in 2011 - what will be a singularly satisfying achievement for the club. On the other side of the coin, pride notwithstanding, one has to wonder whether Inter have any heart left for this match. Even if the heart of a lion beats within the camp, it’s a bit late for that, no?  The results on the season speak loudly and Inter’s results have been nothing to write home about. Why now?
