Serie A enters week 9 and it’s a jam-packed card on offer with some standout games to spot. Here’s a primer on the clash between Inter Milan and Hellas Verona complete with predictions and free picks.

Inter Milan desperate for a win

Inter Milan will be looking to return to winning ways after dropping points in their last three domestic fixtures, which saw them gradually fall out of the top four. While they’ve only lost one game this season – albeit a big game against top of the league Roma in week 7 that went 3-0 at home to the visitors – they’ve been frustrated with a couple of draws of late, and as recently as last lap when they settled on a 3-3 draw with Torino.

Currently fifth in the table and on a 4-3-1 (2-1-1 home) record this season, Inter Milan are in a good place but a victory over fourth placed Hellas Verona would go some way towards restoring confidence and, more importantly, reinstating them in the top four mix as well as closing the gap somewhat on pace-setting Roma.

Bookies seem confident of an Inter Milan win despite the latest spate of frustrations and struggles to win matches. But should a side that is sometimes off colour and inconsistent be installed as big a favourite as Inter Milan at -250 to win outright at Bet365?

The reason for that price might be found in the ingrained perception about the quality of the opposition, a perception that stubbornly belies current form and position in Serie A’s hierarchy because of said oppositions’ Serie B origins perhaps.

Hellas Verona looking to continue winning form

Hellas Verona, who finished second in Serie B to earn automatic promotion, are off to a bright start in Serie A action this season – to the surprise of many and against the odds. They are enjoying a three-game winning streak ahead of week 9 and, certainly, they’ll be looking to extend that solid run of form at the expense of Inter Milan on Saturday at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Hellas Verona ran away winners over Livorno, Bologna and Parma and scored eight goals while conceding four. Their last outing was most impressive as they heroically came back from behind to win 3-2 over Parma, marking their fourth straight win at home. Overall, they are 5-1-2 this season, which includes a modest 1-1-2 record on the road.

Sportsbooks aren’t buying what they are selling however, listing them as the whopping +700 underdogs to win outright in Milan. Even the draw is tipped at far-flung +350 soccer odds at Bet365.

These hefty price tags have everything to do with the fact that odds makers are still questioning whether they are the real deal. That and the fact that they’ve only won once on the road this season, against bottom-scrapers Bologna no less, isn’t exactly a stellar recommendation.

But Hellas Verona have proven to be a team to contend with so far and have produced big performances against big teams such as title threats AC Milan – well, they were held to be so at the start of the season – when they beat them 2-1 at home to kick start life in top-flight action. Moreover, they have been rock solid at home and are yet to drop points, maintaining a perfect 4-0-0 record and that says a lot about their organisation and unity.

Soccer Betting Verdict

Inter Milan have only dropped points to title threats this season at home – Juventus and Roma – and, as such, a case for favouritism exists. Still Inter Milan appear to be vulnerable this season – Roma exposed just how ineffective Inter Milan could be in the 3-0 loss at the Meazza two weeks ago while Torino emphasized a crucial lack of focus on the back of a late equaliser and a share in the spoils. Occasionally brilliant but sometimes inconsistent, Inter Milan at -250 to win outright doesn’t seem to be a valuable sports pick.

Price matters and that is a big price tag in our opinion that isn’t warranted when given the form and confidence that Verona brings to the table. Does that mean a bet on Verona is in order though?

While betting on a Verona win is priced as a long shot soccer pick, there isn’t ought to suggest that it should be priced so high or, for that matter, that they couldn’t pull off a positive result in Milan – win or draw. So to answer: yes, needs must. A bet on Verona is in order. We’re plumping down to an upset win here but even the draw bet is good value too. You decide.
