Barcelona had little trouble in the first leg at home, winning 4-0 behind braces from both Messi and Cesc Fabregas.
Though they're not at home at the Nou Camp for the return leg, Barcelona is still favored at -350 to win. That leaves Getafe as a whopping +1100 underdog on their home turf, with a draw also seeming unlikely at around +500 in the soccer odds.
The Dark Blues haven't had a happy new year so far. They've yet to win in 2014 and that's unlikely to change come Thursday.
It's been a run of four straight matches which Getafe has lost, which includes two losses to Barcelona, a 3-0 defeat at Sevilla and a 1-0 loss at home against Rayo Vallecano.
Considering Rayo are in the relegation zone and have been a punching bag for the rest of La Liga this season, it was a truly miserable result for The Dark Blues. They had a ton of chances but couldn't get anything past Rayo's goalkeeper Ruben.
With the loss, Getafe moved into the eleventh spot in the table. They're a bit lucky not to be even lower, considering their overall goal differential stands at minus 11.
The Dark Blues' home form has left a lot to be desired as well. They've managed four wins, two draws and four losses in 10 matches, but recently they've been having a really difficult time getting the job done in front of their own supporters. Not good when you've got Barcelona coming to town.
The Catalans were in a fight for their lives against Atletico Madrid over the weekend, with the match ending at a 0-0 deadlock.
It's pretty rare to see a clash with so many influential attacking players end without a goal, but both defenses held firm. Both teams seemed to be trying not to lose rather than going for the win.
That draw means Barcelona and Atletico are still tied atop the La Liga table at 50 points apiece. The Catalans remain in the top spot because of a superior goal difference, having scored an amazing 51 goals (allowing 12) in 19 matches.
Barcelona looks on course to make another deep run in the Copa del Rey and their first-leg performance has all but wrapped up this tie. Fortunately for the Catalans, they have the luxury of resting some key figures should they wish to do so.
With a four-goal advantage, something crazy would have to happen for them to cough up the lead. Even Barcelona's lesser-used players should be able to help them get into the quarters, though there's a good chance Messi will feature after starting out on the bench against Atletico. Getafe saw what an impact he could make in limited time back in the first leg.
Copa del Rey Pick
The Dark Lions have had a miserable time against Barcelona this season. They lost 2-5 at home back in December and then faced a similar fate in that first-leg loss at the Nou Camp.
That makes it all the more difficult to go against the Catalans this Thursday, even in spite of the fact they're likely to play some fringe players after building up such a comfortable lead.
Perhaps we should back Barcelona as our soccer picks on a 1.5-goal handicap, which pays out at a more affordable -115, but either way we expect another win for Gerardo Martino's men.
