Fulham and Manchester United collide in Week 10 as both sides look to improve their Premier League fortunes. Sportsbooks tip the fixture towards Man U, not surprisingly. Will the Red Devils come through on their generous odds or will Fulham rise to the occasion.

Fulham in a spot of trouble; Man U gathering momentum

Fulham’s defeat to Southampton on Saturday, a 2-0 defeat at St. Mary’s Stadium, saw them inch towards the drop zone. Two points above the cut off line, albeit in 14th place, Fulham’s Premier League fortunes are in dire straits. Indeed, might not improve for some time with Man U slated on the weekend followed by Liverpool and Swansea in the weeks after. Heck, sportsbooks are offering Cottagers at +350 in the relegation betting market at Bet365 ahead of week 10 Premier League betting.

It goes from bad to worse with Fulham listed at whopping +500 soccer odds to win outright against Man U on Saturday while the draw is listed at +280 at Bet365. The visitors, by comparison, are listed a healthy -175 sports pick to win outright. Talk about stacking the odds.

Only a diehard Fulham fan would expect Cottagers to take any points in this game or, for that matter, in the ensuing game with Liverpool. Well, that’s what the overarching soccer-betting market outlook clearly suggests.

What is vital is that Fulham compete well in both fixtures in order to improve their stock value down the road for when they face a beatable side such as Swansea or West Ham. Otherwise, if they don’t account well, their fortunes in England’s top-flight league will be in grave danger and watch if their odds in the relegation market don’t shorten.

The individual talent contained within Fulham that has shown moments of brilliance this season is reason for Fulham fans to hope though, and even make Man U wary ahead of their engagement. But said individual talent does have a tendency to individually drift off from game to game, steadfastly refusing to play as a team in unison. Inconsistent and unpredictable, you never know what to expect from Fulham in any given week and that makes them a risky choice for your soccer picks in our minds.

That said Man U aren’t without their share of woes this season and David Moyes and Co. aren’t in the clear yet. Granted they are after a comeback-from-behind win against Stoke City at the Old Trafford – the upshot of which has many pundits believing they are on the verge of a comprehensive performance. There are still plenty of question marks hanging over them, including the fact that they have yet to string together a two-game winning streak this season.

On paper, a match against Fulham appears to be exactly the sort of match that Man U needs to build momentum on: Cottagers have only one home win this season, ironically against Stoke City; they‘ve lost both high-profile games against Arsenal and Liverpool by a score of 3-1 at home; and they are coming off a defeat to Southampton on the road, a disappointing result that saw their two-game winning streak snapped.

Matches are played on the pitch and not on paper however. The sheer brilliance of Man U in their win over Stoke City at Old Trafford – in terms of both scoring and heroic comeback – is an encouraging sign but it can’t be taken for granted by sports bettos that a Man U win is a certainty.

Soccer Betting Verdict: This game isn’t as straightforward as the sports betting market suggests. There is no doubt that Man U is experiencing an upsurge in form and showing signs of consistency – they are undefeated in five straight games across all competitions – and that bodes well for them to deposit a first back-to-back winning streak in Premier League. However, Fulham’s woes notwithstanding, they are a side that can surprise and that fact suggests they shouldn’t be priced so large a pick. Individual talent alone makes the upset win a real possibility. Problem is when said talent decides to play cohesively is anybody’s guess – although a high profile match is as good a time as any, don’t you think.

All things being considered, there is value on both sides of the coin therefore. A Man U win at -175 is probably going to be the popular sports pick and for good reason. On the flipside, an upset win at +500 by Fulham does have probable cause. For our part though we’re not entirely convinced or buying what either side is selling just yet and as such we’re shading in the draw bet at +280 and adding the Over 2.5 at -133 as our bonus pick.
