Allez! Allez! Allez! It's World Cup qualifying time and France will be fancying their chances against Finland, but not as much as your Humble Handicapper fancies making a profit from this Group I game.

Before Friday’s action, the sportsbooks and the betting odds both listed France as 2/5 odds to qualify and the best soccer odds your Humble Handicapper could find on them not qualifying was 7/4.

Friday night saw France walk all over Australia 6-0, which did nothing for their standing in the group table as it was only a friendly, but it does set them up très nicely for their match against Finland.

It already looks like France will qualifying through the play-offs as nobody -not even your Humble Handicapper with his crystal ball- reckoned that Spain will drop any more points in this competition. France are second in Group I sitting on 14 points, but Spain are three points clear with 17. France are five points clear of third-place Finland, so this is a game that France really can't afford to lose.

Enough with the footballing truisms... WHERE’S THE MONEY MIKE?

Group I chatter is soon to be all about Spain as they are undefeated so far, and the only points they have dropped are points from two drawn games; France, on the other hand, have already been defeated once and drawn two of their games. In these World Cup qualifiers, France have scored 12 goals but conceded six, which would suggest a 2-1 victory for France, which is available at 8/1.

The bookies have a French victory listed at 2/7 odds, while a Finnish win is set at 12/1 and a draw is priced at 5/1.

Don’t Start Something You Can’t Finish…

The Finns are on nine points after seven games having won two, lost two and drawn three.

They’ve scored five goals and conceded six in this competition, so it comes as no surprise to your Humble Handicapper that the bookies will be expecting France to beat Finland.

The goals that Finland have scored and conceded suggest that the game will end drawn so you might want to check out the odds on 0-0 and 1-1 and 2-2 results. And here they are: 16/1, 13/1 and 28/1 respectively, but those soccer odds should tell you something.

Before their match against the Aussies, France had only won one of their last five games but that was a hefty 4-2 victory away to Belarus. The two games before that were scoreless.

Don't forget that France, even when playing away to Finland, came out 1-0 victors. The best sports betting odds on that score are 15/2.

Finland would seem to have the form with three victories, one draw and one defeat from their last five; however, in a game of this magnitude I think it has to be France for your soccer picks.
