Their pride wounded, the Toffees are going to come out extremely fired up for Saturday's encounter with Aston Villa at Goodison Park. A victory for the hosts seems very likely for our soccer picks.

Odds Overview

The Toffees are widely expected to bounce back with a win this weekend and they're therefore favored over the -200 barrier for the match. The Villans are priced out at anywhere from +525 to +675, while a draw's in and around +350.

Everton

The second round of the Merseyside derby did not go so well for the Toffees. In the first meeting, it finished all square in a thrilling 3-3 draw.

This time around, Liverpool came to play and wound up as 4-0 victors as Anfield. Making matters worse, Romelu Lukaku had to go off with an ankle injury and is now set to miss an extended period of time.

With the rest of the top four all getting at least a point and Manchester United winning, it was far from a successful playday for Everton. They find themselves in sixth place in the standings as of now, four points back of the fourth-place Reds.

Some good news did arrive, however, as the Toffees reached a deal with Lacina Traore in the transfer market. Traore is an extremely tall Ivorian striker who could make an impact on Merseyside, though supporters will have to wait for up to two weeks for him to recover from a hamstring issue.

Lukaku's injury is a huge blow though and there's no hiding that. He leads the team with nine league goals and five assists, so the likes of Ross Barkley, Steven Pienaar and Kevin Mirallas will all need to elevate their play to cover for the missing striker.

Aston Villa

If you happened to miss it, Villa's 4-3 win over West Brom during the week was the most entertaining match of the bunch.

It was a horror start for the Villans, who went down 2-0 after only nine minutes. They immediately responded though, with Andreas Weimann and Leandro Bacuna scoring to even up the honors at 2-2 after 24 minutes.

Fabian Delph then scored a wonderful goal, before the Baggies got an equalizer themselves from Youssuf Mulumbu. That all happened in the first half. After the break, Christian Benteke scored the winning goal from the penalty spot, giving Villa a massive three points in the process.

With the win, the Villans stayed in tenth place in the Premier League, though they're going to need a string of fantastic results to have any chance whatsoever of breaking into a European spot by season's end.

Villa has actually performed better away from home than they have at Villa Park. They have four wins, four draws and three losses (and a positive goal differential), so they'll like their chances of making a match of it on Saturday.

Premier League Pick

Everton was outclassed in the derby, but we reckon they're going to come right back and control this affair against Aston Villa from start to finish.

The Toffees' home form has been terrific – they've lost only one time in the league at Goodison Park and have a +12 goal differential in those 11 matches.

So while Villa has showed a battling spirit here of late and have been a pesky team to deal with for the most part, we have to side with Everton to right the ship and secure all three points for our free soccer picks. The Toffees know they desperately need a victory to stay in the race for a top four spot.
