It’s 6th versus 9th in Spain's top flight.
There’s two places between these two sides, but there’s also just two points so this game is the very definition of a sixpointer. 9th place Espanyol could overtake 6th place Sociedad and sit 6th themselves, if all results go in their favour at the weekend.
The talk and soccer picks in Spain usually include Barcelona and Real Madrid, but this game is very important to anyone who follows these teams and more importantly, to anyone who wants to win some money from the soccer odds.
A little bit of previous.
The last game between these two sides ended drawn 2-2. And in fact we’ve seen three draws in the last five.
Now with two sides like this and a pedigree like that, you may well fancy the draw, but your Humble Handicapper knows better.
The sportsbooks have an Espanyol win at 13/10, that draw at 12/5 and a Sociedad win at 12/5.
The only clear winners in the last five have both been Espanyol. They won 1-0 away back in November 2012 and 4-1 at home in February 2011.
WHERE’S THE MONEY MIKE?
By comparison Espanyol have just five wins this term, with three draws and six defats. Sociedad have fared a little better in terms of draws. They‘ve managed five wins five draws and just four defeats.
Espanyol’s problems are clear, they simply let in more goals than they score; that’s 19 compared to 17. Sociedad will fancy their chances of adding to their tally of 23 goals.
The bookies like Espanyol for this one as they have them winning both halves at 9/4, while Real doing the same are at soccer odds of 9/2. If that sounds close it probably is, and when you consider that both halves ending drawn is at 15/4, it is close.
Looking at the best correct score odds we see that a 1-1 draw is the bookies favourite pick at 8/1. Then Espanyol winning 1-0, then 2-1 at 8/1 and then Real at 1-0 close behind at 19/2, then we have a goalless draw at 10/1.
This game is wide open, but trust your Humble Handicapper.
