Spirits are high for the Blues, so we wouldn't be surprised to see them get the best of the Magpies at home this weekend. Which side holds the value in this match-up? Join our handicapper in an overview of the soccer odds for this event.

Odds Overview

It's going to cost you a pretty penny if you want to back a Chelsea win this Saturday. The soccer betting odds range from -350 to as high as -400 at some sportsbooks, which means Newcastle is an overwhelming underdog at +1100 to +1400. A draw is available from +450 to +500 and is clearly not a likely outcome in the eyes of oddsmakers.

Handing Manchester City their first home defeat was as sweet as it gets for the Blues. The three points pushed Chelsea into a tie with the Citizens for second place in the Premier League.

Jose Mourinho came up with the perfect tactical game-plan and it worked wonders. Chelsea's defense held strong and an unlikely goal from Branislav Ivanovic ended up being the difference.

Now, City certainly had their chances, but Petr Cech stood his ground and the likes of Jason Terry and Gary Cahill risked their bodies countless times to clear danger. It also helped that City was without star striker Sergio Aguero.

So where will Chelsea go from here? The Blues have to like their chances of stamping out another win, considering they've been excellent at Stamford Bridge, thanks in large part, one would have to imagine, to Mourinho's influence. In 12 matches at home, Chelsea has won 10 times and drawn twice, while scoring 25 goals and allowing nine.

As the top-performing defense (only 20 goals allowed), the Blues will try to stifle Newcastle this weekend.

More turmoil in the Newcastle camp has put a damper on what's largely been a successful campaign in the Premier League.

Yohan Cabaye, arguably the Magpies' best player, was allowed to leave for PSG, while Joe Kinnear just announced his resignation from the position of director of football.

Newcastle also just suffered a terrible 0-3 defeat at home to Sunderland in what was the worst result of the season for the eighth-place side. The Magpies now find themselves eight points outside of the top five and ten behind the top four.

We cannot understate how important Cabaye was to this team, which is why Newcastle supporters are understandably furious with the decision to let him go without finding a suitable replacement. Cabaye had seven goals and two assists in league play but had far more of an influence than any statistic could indicate.

So now the Magpies have to move on. It's hard to imagine they could be any worse than they did in the derby against Sunderland, especially since Newcastle has actually done pretty well (six wins, one draw, five losses) away from home this term.

Premier League Pick

Though the soccer odds suggest otherwise, we don't expect this to be such a straightforward match for Chelsea.

Newcastle has had some great performances away from home, beating the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham, and that should give them some confidence.

In the end though, it makes the most sense for us to select Chelsea to squeak out the win and crucial three points. Momentum is squarely on their side at the moment and this is a great opportunity for the Blues, considering Arsenal face a tough task at Liverpool. Take the Blues to get a narrow win in your soccer picks.
