Revenge will be on the cards for Chelsea, having lost their first game of the season at Newcastle a few weeks ago. Our capper has been studying the odds, find his best free picks inside.

A few weeks ago you could barely back Chelsea to win the Premier League title their soccer odds were so short, all of a sudden they are locked in a battle with Manchester City at the top of the table.

It was a blue Christmas for Jose Mourinho and his men with the draw at Southampton and the shock of conceding five goals at White Hart Lane. To put it into context that’s a quarter of the goals they have let in all season.

Newcastle are in a bit of a mess on and off the pitch, but they have a great recent record against the Londoners, winning four of the last six meetings in the top flight.

Chelsea
You have to think the Tottenham result was a blip, although the Blues have only won one of the last five away games, so maybe it’s worth looking at for Chelsea’s next trip (Swansea) to find some value opposing them in some form.

They are back home now though where their form has been imperious, winning all nine matches, scoring 22 goals and conceding just three, including seven clean sheets. As well as having the best home defensive record, their attacking stats are impressive too. Chelsea are second only to Arsenal in the shots on goal at home table and just above the Gunners in the shots on target tally.

The goals come from all over the pitch but the main men are Premier League leading scorer Diego Costa and Eden Hazard. Costa has scored nine in eight matches at the Bridge, while the brilliant Belgian has six in nine appearances at home.

Newcastle
Ever since beating Chelsea their great run which took them through October and November has faltered markedly. They have won once in the seven games since and conceded 17 goals, as well as losing their manager and (at the time of writing) haven’t named a replacement. Confidence isn’t high.

The man who scored both goals to beat Chelsea a few weeks ago Papiss Cisse has now scored more goals against them than any other club and has scored five goals in his last six Premier League outings. The bad news? He’s gone to the African Cup of Nations with Senegal. To add to the problems Chieck Tiote has also jetted off to play for the Ivory Coast. Newcastle are already struggling with injuries, so they look to be down to their bare bones for this trip to London.

Newcastle’s away record has been poor since last season and have won two and drawn three of their last 15 road trips, I can’t see this ending well for them.

Soccer picks
I can’t make an argument for Newcastle to keep Chelsea at bay with the injuries and players missing from their squad. I expect them to try to ‘park the bus’ but the likes of Cesc Fabregas who has already had more assists than any player last season, will cut them open and with the goal threat they possess and the desire to put that 5-3 defeat right, the only thing stopping me tipping minus two on the handicap is Mourinho’s love of a 2-0!

I’m adding to my soccer picks the scorers in this match and given the records, I’ll pick Hazard over Costa because of the prices.

Free Soccer Pick: Eden Hazard to score anytime: 13/10
