Inter Milan is no stranger to being a favorite when it comes to the soccer odds and nothing change sfor this weekend.
The Nerazzurri are listed at +140 to win despite being away from home, while Catania can be backed at +225. A draw is +230 for those thinking a close tie is awaiting us.
Calcio Catania Spa, also known as the Rossazzurri (Red and light-blues) and Gli Elefanti (The Elephants), is coming off an eight-place finish in Serie A last season.
The Elephants gave Fiorentina all they could handle in the team's season opener, but ultimately ended up losing 2-1. Pablo Barrientos scored the lone goal for Catania in what was a very respectable performance out of the visitors.
It's no easy feat even giving Fiorentina a competitive match, given they're considered to be contending for one of the top spots in Serie A this season. With talents like Giuseppe Rossi and Mario Gomez to contend with, Catania just didn't have enough quality to get the result.
Let's see what kind of performance the Elephants give in their home debut. They were terrific at the Stadio Angelo Massimino in 2012/13, winning 12 matches to go along with four draws and only three losses. Their overall goal differential at home was plus-16.
Will that encouraging display against Fiorentina help set the stage for a positive start against Inter Milan?
So far so good for Inter. The Nerazzurri smashed Cittadella 4-0 in a cup tie and then overcame Genoa 2-0 at home in their league opener.
Though Inter had tons of chances, they had to wait until the 75th minute to get their reward. Yuto Pagatomo put the hosts up 1-0 and then Rodrigo Palacio scored in stoppage time to give Walter Mazzarri the perfect start to his tenure as manager.
Antonio Cassano is no longer a part of the squad, but Mazzarri still has plenty to work with within this squad.
Palacio, who led the side with 12 league goals last year, returns and picked up right where he left off in 2013/14. Diego Milito has been recovering for months now after a horrible knee injury and is targeting a return sometime in September.
Then there's the likes of Fredy Guarin and Esteban Cambiasso, both of whom have more than proven themselves at the highest level of world football.
Serie A Pick
Inter won both meetings last season but there wasn't much separating the two teams in all honesty.
The Nerazzurri won 2-0 at home, with the departed Cassano and Palacio getting goals, and then won a crazy match 3-2 at Catania. Inter was down 2-0 but scored three goals in the last 40 minutes, topped off by a stoppage-time winner by Palacio.
The Argentinean is clearly going to have to be watched carefully by Catania, but we do feel as if they home side will stay strong enough to get at least a point out of this match. Our recommended soccer pick is going to come on the draw at +230.
