Panama takes on Canada in CONCACAF GOLD CUP action all the while looking to win Group A.

Soccer odds for this clash are already in full swing and, naturally, Panama are the odds makers’ hot favourites. With A Panama win the likeliest of outcomes, find out where the value is to be had with the red tide.

Panama cruising towards top spot in Group A

Panama is cruising into the knockout stages of the CONCACAF GOLD CUP and with Round 3 against Canada looming ahead taking their foot off the pedal hardly seems likely. Panama won both its matches so far and quite deservedly so: first beating favourites Mexico 2-1 in their group opener and then following up with a narrow 1-0 win over so-called minnows of Group A, Martinique.

Now they are set to take on a hapless Canada, who is yet to win a game or score a goal in the competition, and fittingly they are the hot favourites listed at -125 at Bet365.

Strictly speaking, Panama needs but a draw to secure top spot in Group A – which is trading at +250 at Bet365. But why take the foot off the pedal now? No, more likely than not, Panama will be looking to throw down the gauntlet with a win and thereby send a message of intention towards the rest of the field. (Panama is now trading at +800 to win outright, a distinct improvement from their +900 odds to win outright a few days ago.)

Oh Canada!

The idea that Canada would deny Panama a win is a long shot. The Canadians are sat at the bottom of the table with nothing to show for their appearance in the competition. Well, nothing of note. All that the Canadians managed to accomplish thus far was to show how inexperienced and out of depth they are – encapsulated in their massive underdog odds of +300 at Bet365.

When examining Canada’s output in the competition, one thing becomes very clear: they seem quite happy to sit on their laurels. If you look at Canada’s first match against Martinique they struggled to get meaningful possession. The same could be said of their match against Mexico where they were all too happy to sit back and wait for chances rather than outright create them. The few they did get away with amounted to naught. With that sort of a tactic, goals come few and far in between (or in their case none) and naturally so do wins.

Panama vs. Canada Picks and Predictions

Of all the matches, this one perhaps appears to be the most straightforward; anything short of a Panama win would be a complete shocker and so we are siding with the bookies and going for a Panama win at -125. Of course, to bring value to backers, we’ve scoured the markets and found a few additional plays. Panama to win both halves is a likely result and at +188 a value free pick. As well, the under 2.5 at -148 has caught our attention together with a 2-0 win by Panama at +700.
