Juventus hot favourites

Juventus top the UEFA Europa League betting charts as the hot favourites to win the trophy by competition end; they are listed at +225 future soccer odds to win outright or thereabouts depending on your sportsbook of choice, a considerable distance ahead of joint- second favourites Napoli and Tottenham at +700 future odds.

Juventus are currently riding roughshod over Serie A. With a 23-3-1 mark and 72 points they are 14 points ahead of Roma and 17 points ahead of Napoli; the Scudetto race is practically a done deal, you could say, which can only mean good things for i Bianconeri as they freely focus their attentions on other silverware.

Juventus stumbled in the group stages of UEFA Champions League to finish third behind Real Madrid and Galatasaray, a position that earned them direct entry into Europe’s second tier competition and upon which they assumed the fancy of odds makers.

Juventus advanced into the R16 with a comprehensive victory over Trabzonspor in the last 32, outclassing the Turkish outfit 4-0 on aggregate. Next up is a much tougher R16 date with Serie A counterparts Fiorentina, a side that remains the only to have beaten Juventus in domestic action this season.

Juventus are installed as the overwhelming favourites to win the first leg in Turin on Thursday, listed at -275 soccer odds at Bet365 – soccer odds that are underlined by Juventus’ 1-0 victory over Fiorentina in week 27 Serie A betting.

It’s an interesting coincidence that the Serie A schedule delivered the very same matchup to feature in Europa League and just mere days ahead. Soccer bettors couldn’t have asked for a better preview of what could potentially transpire between these two sides indeed.

What did transpire is that Juve proved their authority over Fiorentina all the while rendering La Viola’s victory earlier this season a moot point on a 1-1 head-to-head series for the season. They also demonstrated just how difficult an obstacle they pose to the visitors over the upcoming two-legs. Or so they hope.

Fiorentina greatly disadvantaged

Fiorentina, who are the only to have conquered Juventus this season, aren’t without hope even though they are after a 1-0 defeat to Juventus at the weekend. Although that isn’t the sense you’d get from sportsbooks that have La Viola listed at hefty +750 soccer odds to win the first leg in Turin, which is considerably priced up from the weekend where they were matched at +650 at Bet365 for the Serie A win.

It’s uncanny how form can vary from competition to competition. Case-and-point, Fiorentina are through to the Coppa Italia Final. Therefore, just because Fiorentina are after a defeat to the Old Lady of Italian football at the weekend doesn’t mean their fate is a foregone conclusion in Europa League betting.

A busy schedule has La Viola balancing campaigns on three fronts Serie A, Europa League and Coppa Italia action. Admittedly, recent form has been up and down of late, a spot of dodgy form that is partly down to injuries – namely to top scorer Giuseppe Rossi (14 goals in 18 games) who went down with a knee injury against Livorno early January – and partly down to Borja Valero’s four-match ban in Serie A following his red card in the 2-2 draw with Parma. Valero’s considered to be one of the most important players on Fiorentina’s bench in Rossi’s stead and they seem to play with less intensity when the Spaniard isn’t on the pitch. He’ll be available for Europa League however and that augurs well for La Viola’s chances.

Fiorentina’s memorable 4-2 victory at home to Juventus in October was a thriller, a right cracker that showed just how good La Viola are when they play their special brand of attacking football and they’ll need to tap into that form and quality if they hope to accomplish the unthinkable against Juve over the course of the two legs. Granted, they might not get it done in the first leg. But so long as they don’t lose badly in Turin, they’ll have home advantage to bank on in the second leg. And that is something worth hanging your hat on in soccer betting.

Soccer Betting Verdict

Juventus obviously enter this match as the hot favourites for good reason: They are unbeatable at home with a 14-0-0 mark, a record underscored by the recent 1-0 win over Fiorentina in Serie A, and they have the momentum and confidence ahead of this clash. That Fiorentina are mired in a mini slump also helps the hosts’ cause towards winning the first leg and, as such, they are the popular soccer pick to win outright at -275.

That said Juve can’t take anything for granted. Disappointment – such as the recent 1-0 defeat was for Fiorentina – can have a positive effect on said maligned side, especially given the fact that it’s a short turnaround before they get a second crack at it. And if they take a page from that defeat, if not to win outright then just enough to either keep the result close or settle on a draw at +350 at Bet365 in Turin, the prognosis for the return leg would improve greatly.
