The Germans are off to a flying start domestically, but didn't fare so well in their Champions League opener. Can they bounce back at home against Real Sociedad?

Odds Overview

You can never discount how much of an advantage there is when playing at home during these European spectacles. The atmosphere at BayArena is sure to be special for this visit of the Spaniards.

For this second group stage match, Leverkusen are the sports betting favorites to win, with odds in the -125 to -135 range; Real Sociedad, however are listed at anywhere from +300 to +385. When betting the total, the ‘Over’ 2.5 goals is at -135 and the ‘Under’ is at plus money at +105 in the soccer betting odds

Bayer Leverkusen

As we noted up top, Leverkusen didn't enjoy the best of starts to their Champions League campaign. They gave it a good fight, but ended up losing 4-2 to Manchester United at Old Trafford, with Simon Rolfes and Omer Toprak netting their goals.

Since that defeat though, Bayer has been on a roll, winning three consecutive domestic matches on the trot.

In Bundesliga play, Leverkusen topped Mainz (4-1) and Hannover 96 (2-0) and in the DFB Pokal, they overcame Arminia Bielefeld by a 2-0 score-line.

The most recent win came over the weekend against Hannover and it was a relatively straightforward afternoon for the side. They scored two first-half goals and ended up with 19 total shots, eight of which were on target. Hannover could only muster up eight shots and two on goal.

It's been a truly terrific league start for Bayer. They're in third place, behind Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, with 18 points through seven fixtures. Six wins out of seven has extended their best ever start to a domestic campaign.

Real Sociedad

Like their upcoming German opponents, Real Sociedad was unable to get off the ground running in their group, losing 2-0 to Shakhtar Donetsk at home.

Unlike Leverkusen though, the Spanish outfit has failed to respond in the right way. They've tied Malaga and Sevilla and lost 4-1 to Barcelona in the three league fixtures since that European defeat.

Against Sevilla, Real looked the part and had their fair share of chances to get all three points. They were at home and dominated the possession, and even held a man-advantage after a late red card.

However, Sociedad was unable to capitalize, which has been a common early theme for the squad.

Draws have been no stranger to Sociedad in the early stages of 2013/14 season, and with only one win to their name through seven league fixtures, they've already dug themselves a rather large hole in the La Liga standings.

Champions League Pick

Though Real Sociedad has some high-quality players that will need to be dealt with, starting with in-form Mexican attacking player Carlos Vela, it's going to be tough goings for them in Leverkusen.

Not only is Real at home here, but they're coming up against a team that's been playing much better football than they have. Bayer took their loss against United in stride and came back to win three consecutive matches, so they'll be feeling fully confident in their ability to deal with the threat of the Spanish visitors.

Sociedad hasn't won away from home since August 20th (a Champions League playoff round win over Lyon) and we think that streak will stay alive this week. Look for a narrow Leverkusen victory at home for your soccer betting.
