Soccer Picks: Barcelona v Valladolid

Barca will have high hopes of maintaining their lead at the top of the La Liga against the team in 16th place, so where does soccer betting odds the value lie in this game?

Barcelona have made an almost traditional start to their 2013/2014 campaign. Seven wins from seven games, 24 goals scored and only 5 conceded, they could not have wished for a better start. For Valladolid, though, things have been more of a struggle. Only one win so far (only Almeria have fewer) and only six goals scored, they would’ve been hoping for a much more positive beginning and a trip to Camp Nou could scarcely have come at a worse time.

It seems likely that Barca will still be without Lionel Messi for this game, as he continues to deal with the tax evasion case brought against him and his father. That will be small comfort to Valladolid, who still have the likes of Neymar, Xavi, Inestia, Pique and…well, the list goes on. Suffice to say that this Barcelona squad is a formidable obstacle to all but a very few Spanish sides.

This, of course, is why Barca are a best price of 1.14 with Coral to win this game, whilst Valladolid are 26.0 at BetVictor and even the draw is 10.0 with Bet365. The value, therefore, is in drilling deeper into the market and looking for something like the correct score. There, a 2-0 home win will net you 8.0 at Ladbrokes. That might look like a crazy proposition, with Barca at home and averaging more than three goals a game this season, but one thing Valladolid do well is to defend, they’ve conceded only nine times in their seven games, so backing a lower scoreline makes sense here. You can also get very good betting odds on the game being a draw at half time, with Coral offering 4.75 on that followed by a Barca win.
