I’m sure all my loyal fans will be well aware that my last prediction regarding Atletico Madrid, was a simple case of right winner wrong score. So bet with confidence when your Humble Handicapper tells you who will come out on top in this match, and treat the correct score as a bonus.
Enough with the self-promotion…WHERE’S THE MONEY MIKE?
Madrid have won the last two matches between these sides 1-0 and 3-1, and a repeat of those scores is available at 5/1 and 11/1 respectively.
Espanyol did quite the number on Madrid the game before that when they triumphed 4-2 back in December 2011. Just for the sake of parity and to give you all a good sense of what the most likely (as those bookies are smart cookies too) a repeat of that score is available at 375/1.
The two games before the three mentioned above both ended tied, and soccer odds are offering up a draw at 4/1. If you thin that the cookies will crumble that way, go a bit harder and bet on either 1-1 or 2-2 at 8/1 and 25/1 respectively as that’s what the score was back in 2011. I’d recommend you stay well away from 0-0 as Espanyol have scored in four of their last five games and Atletico Madrid have also managed to score in four of their last five games. If you think I don’t know what I’m talking about go stick your money on 0-0 at 12/1, but don’t come crying to me when the sportsbooks takes your cash.
Good form guide
Atletico Madrid have a slight distraction of the Europa League to contend with this week but With the very real possibility of finishing second in the league, Diego Simeone realises that the defence of his Europa League title is pretty small potatoes compared with the prospect of delivering a La Liga silver medal.
Espanyol have no such worries and will
be riding high after their weekend win against Real Betis. It was an early
strike, after just seven minutes, from Sergio Garcia which gave Espanyol their
third successive win on the bounce at Cornella El-Prat. Still a Madrid win is
offered up at 1/3 and a Espanyol win is at 8/1.
The last time this fixture was played (back in April last year) Atletico Madrid and Espanyol were level on points in La Liga, with the Barcelona-based outfit ahead simply because of their superior head-to-head record, thanks in no small part to their 4-2 win in the reverse fixture earlier that season. These days Atletico Madrid are second in the table, and Espanyol are 12th. There is a massive 22 points gap between the two sides, and despite the recent run of good form (see above). I don’t think this game will see Espanyol make it four wins on the trot.
