Week 8 Premier League odds are in full swing and it’s a comprehensive slate that is available with every aspect of the game covered. Join us as we breakdown and share our soccer picks for the clash between Aston Villa and Tottenham, the lone game on Sunday’s card.

Tottenham Hotspur dealt a blow

Tottenham were dealt a significant setback during the last turn around the league, after succumbing meekly to West Ham United in a 3-0 defeat at White Hart Lane they dropped from second to sixth in the table. Currently, 4-1-2 on the season with 13 points collected, Andre Villas-Boas and his men will be looking to bounce back when they visit Villa Park. But it won’t be easy despite the favourable odds of +100 set on a Tottenham away win at Bet365.

Bolstering Spurs’ confidence is a 4-0 victory over Aston Villa in League Cup action last month but, at the same time, taking some of it away is a two-game streak in domestic action that sees them winless (1-1 draw to Chelsea and 3-0 defeat to West Ham).

Aston Villa are sat 10th in the table on the back of a 3-1-3 mark on the season and 10 points. At times, they have been brilliant – the victory over Arsenal to open the season springs to mind as well as the 3-2 victory over Manchester City. While other times they’ve perplexed as they did in the 1-0 defeat to Norwich.

It’s no wonder therefore that sportsbooks are tipping this match against Aston Villa at soccer odds of +250 to win outright despite home advantage. Just never know which team will show up on any given day –the one that impressed us against Arsenal and Man City or the one that leaves us confused. Will the real Aston Villa please stand up?

Aston Villa vs. Tottenham Hotspur picks and predictions

Betting on the winner: Despite the surprising 3-0 defeat to West Ham United in the last lap around the league, Tottenham have been the slightly more consistent side with just two defeats in Premier League and twice stringing together undefeated runs of form across all competitions – a four-game winning streak to start the season and a six-game undefeated run of form that began after a defeat to Arsenal and just ended against West Ham.

By contrast, Aston Villa have seesawed back and forth, unable to string together any sort of viable form. However, didn’t they stare down some big clubs convincingly and against the odds? Yup, they did and impressively so.

When it comes to betting on the winner in this game it’s a bit of a tossup therefore. Form tips the scale towards Tottenham wholeheartedly while intangibles such as inconsistency and the surprise factor suggest Aston Villa are the smartest choice for our sports picks. Then again an argument can be made for the quality on both sides of the coin that could see them cancel each other out for a draw at +260. Dilemma, dilemma.

Certainly, deciding which pick to make here isn’t straightforward and there is value on both sides of the coin. For our part though, form is trump. Moreover, Spurs beat the Villans 4:0 in League Cup action only last month and if they take a page from that game they should be able to replicate a similar result this weekend. Therefore we’re plumping down our soccer picks on a Spurs win at Aston Villa.
