Aston Villa's Premier League future may depend on how they fare in April, while Manchester United are focusing on the top two now. Who will get the points and who has the best odds? William Hill's Lee Phelps has a free betting pick.

On paper this should be the easiest game of the Premier League weekend to bet on. We have a Manchester United team who are the highest scorers at home with a manager who clearly likes to attack, and you should keep this in mind when looking at the soccer odds. Add to that an Aston Villa side who has a manager in Tim Sherwood, who spoke openly about his side not being a defensive one and more suited to attack.

Manchester United
Anyone who has heard me previewing home games at Old Trafford won’t be surprised to hear me putting up one bet here, it has paid out in more than half of their 15 home matches.

Louis van Gaal’s team have scored over 1.5 first half goals eight times this season against Tottenham, Burnley, Leicester, Newcastle, Liverpool, Hull, West Ham and QPR. Aston Villa fit very nicely into that list and you add the fact that they have lost eight first halves of their 15 away from home this season.

Back to United though and added to those stats about their home scoring and to make the first half bet even more compelling, they have scored five more goals in the opening 45 minutes than anyone else in the division (21).

If the two or more goals bet isn’t your thing, Wayne Rooney has scored nine of the 21 they’ve managed and has scored first for his team six times. He’s 3.5 (5/2) to grab the opener for the Red Devils.

Aston Villa
Let’s not get carried away by the Villains last away win at Sunderland, when they doubled their away goals tally by scoring four at the Stadium of Light. This is a difficult month ahead of Tim Sherwood and Co. After Old Trafford there is a visit to the Etihad, White Hart Lane and Wembley. There is only game at Villa Park in this period, but it is a hugely significant one: QPR is simply must win.

Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham -- all away. Villa have struggled against them all recently, beaten in the last four meetings with each. Against United, losses of 4-1, 3-0, 4-0, 3-1; against City, 4-0, 5-0, 4-1, 4-0; against Spurs, 3-0, 2-0, 2-0 and 2-1.

It looks tricky and they need to patch up some walking wounded. The boss said he’s had a nervy week: “Carlos Sanchez went and played two 90-minute games with Colombia, Delphy started both England games and Christian played in two.

“Alan Hutton also went down in the 70th-minute for Scotland and I thought he wasn’t getting back up.

“When you’re struggling defensively you are just praying that there are no more knocks. Thankfully they are okay.”

Soccer picks
No surprises here, I’m going for my usual and that is Manchester United to score over 1.5 first half goals at 3.5 (5/2).

Free soccer pick: Manchester United over 1.5 first half goals 3.5 (5/2) is my free soccer pick.
