Both Juventus and AC Milan return from midweek Champions League appearances to Serie A, having to put behind them rather disappointing accounts and refocus for what is surely going to be one of the more important clashes of their domestic campaigns.
AC Milan settled on a 1-1 draw with Ajax on Tuesday amidst some Balotelli induced controversy (surprise, surprise). AC Milan were well on their way to succumbing to defeat had it not been for the Balotelli-inspired tackle in the box that awarded him the penalty kick and earned the Italian side a draw and a point to the chagrin of all and sundry.
Juventus on the other hand were runaway sportsbook favourites in their clash with Galatasaray on Wednesday but somehow, inexplicably, failed to punch at their weight class. Against all the odds – and they were rather large odds mind you – somehow the Turkish side under the auspicious eye of new coach Mancini managed to eke out a draw.
The week told, both sides must look ahead and regroup for their important date on Sunday. As things currently stand, Juventus goes into this fixture as the firm favourites to win outright at -167 at William Hill. They have home advantage to underscore those favourable soccer odds and good form on the season adds additional weight.
They are third in the table behind pacesetters Roma and Napoli but level on points with the latter at 16. A win is going to be crucial if Juventus hope to maintain pressure on Roma and Napoli and the edge in the futures market as the -163 favourite to win the Serie A title again.
While Juventus clearly have struggled on the European front, they are doing rather well at home with an undefeated run through six laps (4-2-0). Recently, they are riding a three-game winning streak, which includes wins over Hellas Verona, Chievo and Torino. This run of form bodes well, making them a persuasive option for our soccer picks to win outright against AC Milan.
AC Milan enter this important clash as the significant underdogs at + 450 at William Hill. You can’t blame sportsbooks for being seemingly indifferent to Rossoneri when at the crux of those soccer odds is an inconsistent start to Serie A this season that cannot be ignored.
They are 2-2-2 through six laps. Bouncing from one result to another from match-to-match and unable to sustain any sort of positive form that discontent at the San Siro is steadily growing. Top to bottom, il Diavolo are experiencing problems – offense is questionable and defence is almost non-existent.
It doesn’t help matters or their cause against Juventus either that Mario Balotelli (just can’t stay out of the headlines can he?) has gotten himself banned for three games after threatening to kill a referee following a defeat to Napoli a few weeks ago.
Verdict: All things being considered, Juventus have to be the smart choice to back with your sports picks for the outright win. Not only do they have home advantage here but also as far as their home form is concerned they are the more convincing side, grinding out wins and getting the job done. AC Milan have been mediocre in comparison and without their talisman to knock defenders and score goals it’s hard to imagine how they would orchestrate a win here.
