Bayern Munich are the runaway favorites to win the Bundesliga title, but who are the favorites to be relegated this season? Join us as we look at the potential battle at the bottom of Germany’s top flight table.
Bayern Munich Top Faves
Earlier we looked at the Bundesliga Futures Market across sports betting platforms: which teams headlined the title race? Across the board, Bayern Munich were the runaway favourites to win outright, prompting many to dub Germany’s top flight a one-horse race.
Here we turn our attention to the bottom of the table for another intriguing battle: the battle to survive in Bundesliga I. Operating on a different level financially, it’s no surprise that these clubs struggle to remain in top flight. The favourites for relegation this season by considerable distance: Darmstadt at -250 soccer odds, FC Ingolstadt at -110, Hertha Berlin at +300 and Hamburg, Cologne and Hannover (all three at +400 soccer odds).
It’s worth noting that the aforementioned soccer odds and order of favourites pertain to pre-season markets. With one round of the Bundesliga in the books, there has been slight movement on the Bundesliga Odds board but nothing major, obviously. It’s just one match down.
Hamburg SV +400 at Bet365
Hamburg SV finished 16th in the table last season with a 9-8-17 mark and 35 points, but they avoided relegation when they won their playoff tie against Karlsruher SC in the most sensational manner, by scoring last gasp goals. Hamburg had the misfortune to open their season against Bayern Munich and suffer a 5-0 humiliation. As a result, their relegation odds of +400 remain unmoved going into week 2 Bundesliga betting.
Cologne +400 at bet365
It’s interesting to note before making any soccer picks that Cologne are amongst the favourites to go down this season, despite finishing 12th in the table. Then again, it’s an 18-team league and the difference between their 12th place finish, behind a 9-13-12 mark and 40 points, and the drop zone was only six points.
Hannover 96 +400 at bet365
Hannover finished 13th in the league last season with 37 points after going 9-10-15. They finished a point above Stuttgart, yet are favoured over Die Roten (at +900 soccer odds) to go down into second-tier oblivion. Do the bookies have it right? Hannover 96 opened their season against promoted side Darmstadt and settled on a 2-2 draw on the away in week 1 Bundesliga betting. The upshot of which they’ve had their relegation odds marginally shortened ahead of week 2 Bundesliga betting action to +350 soccer odds.
Hertha Berlin SC +300
The side from the nation’s capital is amongst the top favourites from the established Bundesliga core to go down after the two promoted sides Darmstadt and FC Ingolstadt. That’s largely down to a lacklustre account down the stretch last season, finishing 15th in the table with a 9-8-17 mark and 35 points. While they did finish level with Hamburg SV, they clearly didn’t appear to strike a convincing enough pose for odds makers in pre-season betting markets. After round one and a 1-0 win over Augsburg on the away, Hertha Berlin’s relegation odds have swelled to +350 soccer odds.
Ingolstadt -110 at bet365
Ingolstadt entered Bundesliga futures betting as one of the top two favourites to return to second-tier obscurity at -110 soccer odds. A bright start to their campaign, with a 1-0 win over Mainz 05 on the away, has seen odds makers push their odds above EVEN money to +110. They remain the second faves to be demoted still.
Darmstadt -250 at bet365
Darmstadt is getting no love from odds makers whatsoever as they entered pre-season betting markets as the -250 favourites to return to Bundesliga 2. After forcing the 2-2 draw on Hannoever 96 and opening their campaign without a loss one would think their odds would shorten. Not lengthen. Yet, that’s exactly what’s happened as they swell to -275 at bet365 ahead of week 2 Bundesliga betting.
