The soccer world was abuzz one more time this Tuesday when president Sunil Gulati named Bruce Arena the new head coach for the USA team. We look into CONCACAF futures markets in search of possible value. Will USA have plenty of time left to qualify for Russia World Cup 2018? Let's find out.

Arena Re-Takes Position

Former USA boss Bruce Arena, gain the role on a permanent basis once again. Irish sportsbook Paddy Power (SBR rating A) released lines on whom the next head coach will be and Arena was the overwhelming favorite at -275.

After firing Klinsmann, US soccer president Sunil Gulati said: “We remain confident we have quality players to help us advance to Russia 2018. ...  But the form and growth of the team up to this point left us convinced that we need to go in a different direction.”

Three teams will qualify for the World Cup from CONCACAF and a fourth will go into a playoff. There is still plenty of time for the USA to qualify as there are only six teams in the hexagonal and there are eight more games to go. The Americans don’t play again until March so there is plenty of time to regroup and surge up the table. The USA are the dominant force in North America, along with Mexico and should be able to make the top three or four at the expense of Panama or Honduras.

As such, USA are the second-highest rated CONCACAF team in the list of favorites on SBR's best sportsbooks to win the 2018 World Cup. That being said they are all the way out at +100000 (Mexico are +80000), well behind favorites Germany, who are +650 to retain the World Cup. But Costa Rica are +500000, Panama are +1500000 and Honduras are +2000000, so the books clearly feel that USA will be in with a better shout than its CONCACAF rivals.
