The rain in Spain may fall mainly on the plain but that doesn't matter to anybody as one of the most exciting league in the world is about the kick-off.
18 May is very very far away but as your Humble Handicapper has already got an appointment to be in Las Vegas that week he needs to start planning ahead, in case the tables aren’t kind to him he can at least have some walking around money from the bookies.
Not to mention all the expenses that taking Mrs Richardson on holiday seems to incur.
Enough about your vacation plans… WHERE’S THE MONEY MIKE?
Blah blah blah Barca are defending champions blah blah blah Real Madrid are defending runners up blah blah blah Jose Mourinho has gone over to London blah blah blah Lionel Messi is the best rated footballer ever. Everybody knows that there is only really two teams in contention to win the Spanish league.
Barcelona are a 3/4 betting odds favourite, while Real Madrid are 11/8 second best. If you go crazy and want to bet on other sides, you should know that the third-place favourites with the sportsbooks are Atletico Madrid are 100/1 to lift the title.
If you want to throw your money away, you might like to give it to charity so then you'll feel warm and fuzzy inside rather than stupid, as come the early days of May when the season could well be tied up.
The league isn't the only two horse race in Spain for our soccer picks, as Lionel Messi is 3/4 favourite to be the league's top goalscorer while Cristiano Ronaldo at 15/8. Again the third favourite is a 60/1 long shot with Neymar, but why would you go through two layers of cream to get to milk.
Madrid do lead Barcelona in the numbers of titles that they've amassed with 32 on their record sheet compared to 22 for Barcelona, however last season Barcelona did win their fourth title in five years so it's no surprise that the bookies have them above Madrid.
If you look to double your money something that leaps up at me is betting on Messi to be the top goalscorer and Barcelona to win the league, as those two things go very neatly together. It's 5/11 not to happen while its 17/11 to happen.
Similarly, if you happen to shop on the Real Madrid side street and you have a similar sort of bet with Ronaldo being top scorer and Madrid winning the league at 13/4 for yes and 2/11 on no.
Personally just to be obtuse and because I have a feeling in my bones that it won’t play out this way I think neither of those things can happen I think the top goalscorer in the winning side will be inexplicably split this season.
It still can be either Messi or Ronaldo and it still going to be Barcelona or Madrid, but I just have a very sneaking suspicion it won’t be both.
Soccer Picks: Barcelona in the league but Ronaldo it a top goalscorer.
