Las Vegas, Nevada
Par 71, 7255 yards
The PGA Tour schedule stops in Las Vegas this week for a long-standing fixture on the schedule. The Shriners Open was founded thirty-six years ago and for many of the early years was known as the Las Vegas Invitational. TPC Summerlin has become the permanent home for the tournament in recent years with a score of twenty under par score usually needed if a player has intentions of winning. With the TPC Summerlin at an altitude of 820 meters above sea level, the ball flies further than normal, while the course consists of Bermuda fairways and Bentgrass greens.
Betting Tips and Predictions
The 2017 champion Patrick Cantlay is the best place to start when analyzing this week’s tournament. Last season he made a spirited defense of his title losing out to Bryson Dechambeau by just a single stroke. The 2017 triumph was his maiden PGA Tour title and it was not until June at the Memorial Tournament that he added his second.
Despite only winning those two titles he has been a model of consistency at the highest level in the interim with thirty-three tournaments played and thirteen top 10 finishes which is close to a 40% strike rate which is phenomenal. After a busy final few weeks of the season in the FedEx playoff series, I am sure he was ready for a few weeks off to recharge and work on his game. He returned to action last week at the Safeway Open where he performed solidly and we can expect him to improve this week.
Last year’s champion Bryson Dechambeau will be determined to get his career back on track after suffering criticism for his pedantic slow play during the FedEx playoff series. He is a proven winner on the PGA Tour with five titles however, last year’s win here was his last on the PGA Tour. He has won since across on the European Tour in January at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. That will feel like a long time ago now and I would expect Dechambeau to re-establish himself on the PGA Tour sooner rather than later.

My idea of a Banker Bet in this week’s place markets is Webb Simpson, the 2012 champion. A regular visitor to Vegas with many top 20 finishes banked in previous years. Consistency is what Simpson brings to the PGA Tour week in week out. Since his last win at TPC Sawgrass in the Players Championship, he has accumulated twenty top 20 finishes in thirty-three starts. That is a telling stat and one that gives the evidence needed to support him this week.

Charles Howell has had a superbly consistent PGA Tour career reaching the top 20 in career earnings with $40,000,000. That is a phenomenal return when you consider he has only won three tournaments in a career spanning twenty years. Despite this, he is still relatively young at forty years old and the best may yet be to come from the Howell. Born and raised in Augusta, Georgia and a regular visitor to Vegas we can expect him to be sharper for last week’s fourth-place finish at the Safeway Open.
