Most of the news in the Italian capital may be about the resignation of the Pope and his probable successor, something so exciting and interesting that even your Humble Handicapper has got in on the act . But there is always football happening in Italy and this Saturday is no exception with a very tidy match between Roma and Juventus, with the opportunity to win lots of money being (as always) just a click away.
Enough with the holy betting orders…WHERE’S THE MONEY MIKE?
You are probably not going to be surprised to hear that Juventus are the sportsbooks favourites to win the Italian league this season with odds around 2/7 mark with most sports books. Just for the sake of party, but not as if anyone is going to bet on it Roma are 500/1 with most bookmakers to do the same which speaks volumes was likely to happen in this match.
Roma have only been able to secure one victory in their last 15 Serie A encounters against Juventus a streak which runs all the way back to February 2004.
Looking at the last head-to-head it makes quite sobering reading for Roma as in the last five games Juventus have had four victories, three clean sheets and outscored Saturday’s hosts 14 goals to 2. Crunching those numbers would suggest the gable end 7-1 to Juventus, but I think that’s a pipedream even at 90/1. In the last two meetings between the two sides Juventus have scored four goals so I'm perfectly willing to throw a little bit of money behind 4-1 and 4-0 available at 33/1 and 60/1 respectively. Is it worth mentioning as well that Roma on a three game losing streak and Juventus and a three-game winning streak?
Essentially this will be all about Juve!
The Serie A betting odds have an away victory at 6/5 with a draw at 9/4 and home victory is at 12/5. Also Juventus winning both halves is around 5/2 while Roma winning both halves is available at 4/1.
The table speaks volumes about what you need to know about the likely winner in this game. After 24 matches each, Juventus have 55 points while Roma and just 34 and you should know that Juventus have a goal difference of +34 while Roma are only on +5.
Juventus’ away form is almost as impressive as their home form where they have won eight games drawn two and lost just one on their travels, scoring 23 goals and conceding just eight. Roma by comparison and just five wins three draws and three defeats at home this season scoring 26 but conceding 19.
That's quite a convoluted way of saying that there will be goals in this game and in case anybody is hard of hearing Juventus will win this match.
Already time to look to season’s end
Roma are pretty safe of relegation as the bookies have them at 200/1 to get knocked out of the Italian top-flight, they don't look leading to slip any further down the table as they are at 1/41 to finish top 10 in Serie A, but they all 32/21 to finish in the top six. I say that these odds are nothing more than a distraction ahead of this weekend's clash, and my money is all going on Juventus.
Prediction: Juventus win 3-0, available at 20/1 with Paddy Power.
