The other sports are working their way back, which takes the shine off of horse racing. No matter, we have some of the top horse races this weekend.
It’s summertime and that is the best time for horse racing other than the Triple Crown races in a normal year. However, we know the drill by now for 2020 and we are unloading six fascinating stakes races on Saturday from Saratoga and Monmouth Park.
In the last several months we have supplied free horse racing picks for you and are at it again on stellar race day and want you to be a part of the action. We had one of the top weeks in terms of exact or bettor winners at 26 and we will do our best to beat the horse racing odds again.
Saratoga Race: 5
Post Time: 3:28 EDT
Surface: Dirt Distance: 1 1/8 Miles
Morning Line Favorite at Intertops: #3 Midnight Bisou
Backstretch News: A day of big races starts at Saratoga with the Grade 1 $500,000 Personal Ensign States. Midnight Bisou is back to defend its title in this race and as opposed to last year, she is the favorite at a very chalky 2/5 odds and continues to dominate and is the one to beat. Vexatious is in a group that looks like it’s running for second fiddle and because jockey J. Lezcano has cashed several recent tickets, #4 is our choice for place. Point of Honor has been a bridesmaid in three G1 races and won’t win here either, just a factor to payout.
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #3 Midnight Bisou 2) #4 Vexatious 3) #6 Point of Honor
Longshot Pick: #1 Abounding Joy (20-1 odds)
Monmouth Race: 11
Post Time: 5:31 EDT
Surface: Dirt Distance: 1 1/16 Miles
Morning Line Favorite at Intertops: #5 Piece of My Heart
Backstretch News: Piece of My Heart enters with the most potent Beyer Speed Figures at 80-87-85 and is 2-0-1 (WPS) in five tries at this distance for the G-3 $200,000 Monmouth Oaks. While it is hard to go against PoMH, Lucrezia has a legitimate chance to hit the finish line first with strong speed numbers of its own at 84-82 recently and having one of the hottest jockeys not only at Monmouth but in the country in P. Lopez. Dream Marie is highly capable of a dream trip and has one of the best riders here in J. Bravo on top.
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #6 Lucrezia 2) #5 Piece of My Heart 3) #1 Dream Marie
Longshot Pick: #9 Eve of War (10-1)
Saratoga Race: 9
Post Time: 5:42 EDT
Surface: Dirt Distance: 1 1/8 Miles
Morning Line Favorite at Intertops: #5 Tom’s d’Etat
Backstretch News: The G1 Whitney Stakes with a purse of $700,000, starts the parade of four stakes races in a row. The five-horse field is the smallest in the Whitney in 32 years. Tom’s d’Etat is the 6/5 betting favorite and will look to be the second horse to win this race as a seven-year-old, with only Kelso older at eight (three-time champ). TdE has more than speed and has won six of nine at around this distance. Improbable was last year’s Kentucky Derby and Preakness and was second to #5 in an excellent race back in April. For third, settling on Code of Honor because of a pair of triple-digit Beyer’s.
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #5 Tom’s d’Etat 2) #2 Improbable 3) #3 Code of Honor
Longshot Pick: #4 Mr. Buff (12-1)
Saratoga Race: 10
Post Time: 6:18 EDT
Surface: Dirt Distance: 7 Furlongs
Morning Line Favorite at Intertops: #6 No Parole
Backstretch News: Time to put on the sprinter’s shoes for the G1 $300,000 H. Allen Jerkens Stakes. No Parole defeated four rivals rather convincingly when he became a Grade 1 winner for the first time in the Woody Stephens earlier this summer at Belmont Park. We are not seeing a repeat this time around at Saratoga, in what should be a tight race. Just ahead of #6 we’ve pegged Mischevious Alex, who’s won two of three sprint races of late and has an outstanding rider in I. Ortiz, Jr. For the victory is Echo Town, who ran a strong second to NP and hunts him down this time around.
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #4 Echo Town 2) #5 Mischevious Alex 3) #6 No Parole
Longshot Pick: #5 Mischevious Alex (8-1)
Saratoga Race: 11
Post Time: 6:50 EDT
Surface: Inner Turf Distance: 1 3/8 Miles
Morning Line Favorite at Intertops: #6 Sadler’s Joy
Backstretch News: We head to the grass for the G2 $250,000 Bowling Green Stakes. We are going for the upset here and a pretty good one with Marzo to win at 8/1. No. 1 can shorten the trip on the rail and has a leading combo of support in Ortiz Jr. and trainer M. Maker and is a versatile horse. Sadler’s Joy is completely capable of winning and it would hardly be a shock if that happened, but as we have said often, the faves don’t always win. Cross Border is another who could win and is 4-for-4 at Saratoga and is also trained by Maker.
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #1 Marzo 2) #6 Sadler’s Joy 3) #2 Cross Border
Longshot Pick: #1 Marzo (8-1)
Saratoga Race: 12
Post Time: 7:22 EDT
Surface: Turf Distance: 5 ½ Furlongs
Morning Line Favorite at Intertops: #7 Dalika (GER)
Backstretch News: We wrap things up with the $200,000 Caress Stakes. Dalikais a 3/1 pick by the sportsbooks and enters off a brilliant workout eight days ago and has one of the best jockeys not named Ortiz at this track. However, we are backing the speed horse in Sweet Bye and Bye, who also has put together a superior workout in the last week and is at 6/1. For the last spot on the ticket, it is Introduced, who is 3-2-1 (WPS) in its past seven sprints.
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #3 Sweet Bye and Bye 2) #7 Dalika 3) #4 Introduced
Longshot Pick: #4 Introduced (10-1)
See you back here next week with more racing, Good Luck!
