Sanderson Farms Championship
September 19-22 – Jackson, Mississippi
Country Club of Jackson
6800 Metres, Par 72
The Country Club of Jackson has been the host of the Sanderson Farms Championship since 2014. Founded in 1914 and re-designed by John Fought in 2008, the championship is in a style similar to a Donald Ross design. A parkland course with Bermuda Grass fairways, the greens are smaller than normal.
Potential trouble for the players comes from missing the wider than average fairways and finding the rough or the trees. Although, in general, Country Club of Jackson is not the hardest test on the PGA Tour as the average winning score of twenty under par illustrates.
Betting Tips and Predictions
Last year’s champion, Cameron Champ, continued the trend of first time PGA Tour winners in each of the five years at Jackson Country Club. He followed on the heels of the other first time winners at the Sanderson Farms Championship -Ryan Armour, Cody Gribble, Peter Malnati, and Nick Taylor.
The Long Shots
Can Korn Ferry graduates, Scheffler or Shelton, become the latest first-time winner at the Sanderson Farms?
Twenty-three-year-old Scottie Scheffler fits the profile of the potential winner of this year’s Sanderson Farms. He was the number one Korn Ferry Tour graduate and is in superb form. He made a fast start last week to his 2019/2020 PGA Tour season at Greenbrier, holding a tie for the thirty-six hole lead, before eventually finishing seventh.
This was no surprise given his sublime form on the Korn Ferry Tour last season, which contained two tournament victories amongst a phenomenal eleven top 10 finishes. Last year, he managed a respectable 45th place here which should help, as experience for this week as he attempts to become another PGA Tour first time winner at the Sanderson Farms.
Another Korn Ferry graduate worth supporting this week is Robby Shelton, who like Scheffler held the thirty-six hole lead last week at Greenbrier and finished 7th. Like Scheffler, he won two Korn Ferry tournaments last season to qualify in third position overall.
One of those two wins was at the Nashville Golf Open when he defeated Scheffler in a sudden-death playoff. He has previous course experience at Jackson in 2016 when he finished 70th and he can put that to good use this weekend as he attempts to win his first PGA Tour title.
On both longshot selections, I advise adding the top 5 market as detailed below:

Banker / Mid Range Picks
This week in the place markets, Canadian Corey Conners, who had a superb 2018/2019 season winning the Valero Texas Open after battling through a five-man Monday qualifying playoff. The ‘Cinderella Story’ victory in Texas was no fluke as he followed up the week after with a prominent display at the Masters.
A quieter few months in the middle of the season followed, but he found form again in the FedEx playoff series eventually finishing in twenty-sixth position. Strokes gained in the tee to green category on the PGA Tour can be one of the more informative statistics and his stats were superb last year with a top 10 ranking throughout. Last season, he finished second here at Jackson Country Club, and so have the perfect profile for a banker bet this week in the Top 20 place market.
Another Canadian, Nick Taylor, holds rock-solid form claims this week in Jackson, Mississippi after a solid top 30 effort last week at Greenbrier. The champion here in 2014, his three other tournaments at Jackson Country Club have resulted in top 26 finishes. On balance, this is a solid Top 20 look this week at the Sanderson Farms Championship.
