Rugby Tips: Aviva Premiership Final
Saracens dominated the regular season, losing just three of their 22 matches and finishing nine points clear of Northampton. They also scored 629 points, more than anyone else in the league, and conceded the second fewest with 353. All of this was achieved alongside a run to the final of the Heineken Cup, which they lost last Saturday to Toulon. They will be looking to bounce back with a big win here.
Northampton, by contrast, will be looking to avenge the disappointment which they suffered in this match last season, when they were narrowly beaten by Leicester after captain Dylan Hartley was controversially sent off just before half time. They achieved some measure of redress a fortnight ago when they beat the Tigers to get to this game and they had the best defence in the Premiership this season, so they will have high hopes of walking off with the trophy to add to the Amlin Challenge Cup that they won last Friday.
Saracens are currently 1.62 favourites with a number of bookmakers, including Bet365. Northampton, by contrast, are a best price of 2.6 with William Hill. Northampton actually inflicted one of those two defeats upon Saracens, a 41-20 victory back in October, but a more reliable form guide is probably the narrow 28-24 win that Saracens secured over the Saints last month.
That scoreline suggests a narrow Saracens win, and a margin of 1-10 points will get you 2.6 from Paddy Power, whilst Sportingbet offer 2.15 on them leading at half time and full time.
Another bet to consider is the first scoring play. Both sides have very talented goalkickers in Owen Farrel and Stephen Myler, and you can back either to open the scoring with a penalty at around 2.4.BR.
