The New England Revolution brings a seven-game unbeaten streak into a huge Eastern Conference tilt with their rivals, D.C. United Friday night at Audi Field in Washington D.C.. With a point, the Rev’s can leapfrog Toronto FC and temporarily move into the final playoff spot in the East. Toronto plays at Montreal Saturday night.
The Revolution is 2-4-3 on the road but as mentioned above, they’ve been playing great ball lately and had a huge 2-1 road win on the Fourth Of July at Colorado. The United come in 2-2-3 in their last seven games and are coming off a 2-0 loss to FC Dallas in their last match on July 4. Both teams will be hungry for the crucial points in the standings here but with the Rev’s on fire as of late and needing the points to get back into playoff contention, they will not be an easy foe for United to bounce back with a win here.
If the Revolution is to get a crucial point or even two on the road again – and the read is they will earn one – they will need to blanket and shutdown veteran United star Wayne Rooney who leads United with ten goals. They could also use some offense from their leading goal scorers, Juan Fernando Caicedo and Carles Gill who each have four goals heading into this match.
These two teams battled to a 1-1 draw in Foxboro, MA back on May 25 and that’s exactly what they’ll do again tonight in DC.
Prediction: Revolution 1 United 1
